    Do you stock pile Insulin

By coincidence, Christmas morning, and one of my husnand's colleague has been in touch to say there had been a problem that week obtaining their young daughter's insulin. Then with Christmas going on, their 16 year old girl had forgotten to tell them she was out of insulin. A call had to be...

    Do you stock pile Insulin

That's right. My stockpile is no more than usual. I was simply saying that I always have supplies, as I've been caught without before. In fact my insulin disappeared from my repeat medicine list at my surgery at one time, which could have proven a problem if I hadn't kept a supply.

    Do you stock pile Insulin

Three months of ‘stockpiling’ supplies is approximately three boxes of Novorapid and two of Lantus. As Slip has stated above, it depends how much you use. My supply has nothing to do with Brexit, I doubt it will cause any problems.

    Do you stock pile Insulin

Nothing to do with being selfish as in the past I have known dispensaries run low on certain insulin products due to manufacturing problems and being able to get hold of it. There is also the chance that something may happen to your last vial or box.

    Do you stock pile Insulin

I have always kept about three months supply just to be sure I never run out or if I have a problem obtaining it,

    Gardening Hypos

For some reason gardening has always brought on a hypo. I don’t mow the lawns but just weeding, planting, etc., seems to lower my sugar within half an hour.

Type 1 New to diabetes type 1

Totally agree. I had been diabetic for 48 years before I went on a carb counting course, prior to that there were no such courses and just had to go it alone. Been carb counting now for over 4 years and my hba1c has definitely improved.

I actually liked Spam fritters. Couldn't eat Spam cold straight from the tin. Wow, memories!

    How Old Am I?

Had to phone my doctors the other day to cancel an appointment. For identity purposes, the receptionist asked my date of birth. When I said 8/3/54, she asked "Is that 1954?". Er, yes!

    Laser eye surgery

I enquired about laser surgery some 30 years ago. They weren’t too enthusiastic about Type 1 diabetics having it then. Things have probably changed since then but I think you’ll find they insist you have extremely tight control of your diabetes.

T2 vs T1 stigma - anyone else feel a bit 'shamed' for having T2?

My dad was born in 1920 but by the time he was seven he had a stepfather. He faced a great deal of prejudice in the village he lived, not only because of being illegitimate but also because of his surname. I have been told that there are still people who harbour bad feelings towards this...

T2 vs T1 stigma - anyone else feel a bit 'shamed' for having T2?

My father too was illegitimate but thankfully he was given his mother's surname. As this was not a common name I have been able to trace my family tree back to at least 1400. There are books written about my one ancestor, who ended up being hung from a famous castle walls and that castle now...

T2 vs T1 stigma - anyone else feel a bit 'shamed' for having T2?

I did the Ancestry DNA test and had so many replies from people who have matched with me. 2nd, 3rd and 4th cousins whose family names have matched with my ancestry tree, relatives I wasn’t actually looking for. I was only interested in my father’s ancestry, but my mother’s relatives were the...
