Is there a long lead time on insulin right now?

I was advised about 30 years ago by my then doctor to make sure I had more than enough. This was after I misjudged and ran out on a Bank Holiday weekend. I ended up having to go to his home to pick up a prescription. I also try to have at least a month’s supply of other medication, as there...

Is there a long lead time on insulin right now?

No problem getting my Novorapid. Can I suggest that you never allow your supply of any insulin to get as low as one vial. Put your prescriptions in earlier each time so that you have a good supply. I have enough in my fridge to last me a good three months.

Thyroid tests - what test does/ your doctor use to monitor your thyroid condition and any treatment?

My under active thyroid was shown in my usual blood test. Now I take Levothyroxine once a day and it's at a normal level.

    GP repeat blood test

I had this happen a number of times. If my blood sat too long before testing it would show a high level of potassium. Now I have to remind my GP's surgery that my blood needs 'spinning' after being taken.

Theresa May Misleading People Regarding Glucose Monitor

On Wednesday, 17 October, during PMQs, the Prime Minister was asked why she had a blood glucose monitor when so many people weren't able to have them prescribed. She answered that they were available on the NHS, which I believe is very misleading when many Type 1s aren't even offered them and...

More than 260,000 diabetes inpatients had hospital medication errors in 2017

These errors have been going on for years. Back in 1975 I was almost given an insulin overdose meant for another patient who was showing high glucose levels. I refused it because I knew my levels were fine, even though in those days you were only able to do urine tests. The Consultant was...

Question for Type 1 Diabetics that travel to US.

Good idea. Similar to when I was cruising back from New York, continued having my basal at 5 pm over a five day period but it was actually an hour later each day as we crossed the North Atlantic, so that by the time we reached Southampton I was back to my usual 11 pm.

Question for Type 1 Diabetics that travel to US.

Probably not as I have since adopted a low carb way of eating and now find my readings to be pretty stable. It is, of course, more convenient injecting my basal at night rather than mid afternoon but for a holiday I thought it better than risking an under or overdose. Some people have...

Question for Type 1 Diabetics that travel to US.

I've been to the US a few times and noticed my readings are more stable when I'm there. The only difference I can think of in my case is the fact that I always carry on taking my basal at the same time as I would if I were at home i.e. 6 pm when in New York and 3 pm in California. When I'm...

Just got my Type one diabetic tattoo

A good idea although getting a tattoo isn't for me, one reason being with all my problems and allergies it would start at my shoulder and end at my wrist. I think you did right though.

Your Thoughts On The Cause, Of Type 1 Diabetes

Whilst doing a STILE Course (the Shropshire equivalent of DAFNE), a lady there who had been Type 1 for the best part of 60 years, reckons it was fright. In the village where she had lived as a child, an old tramp used to go round scaring the children. After she had been frightened by him she...

    Donating Blood

I asked my Consultant a few years back about donating blood. He said no one had ever asked him that before and was interested in finding out, so immediately left the room to speak to the Senior Consultant. The answer came back as no, they don't take donations from Type 1 diabetics.
