    Replacing inner needle cap

erm, ok, if you say so.... but this thread isn't about using needles more than once. It's about replacing the needle cap before you dispose of the needle.

    Feeling a bit helpless..

I suspect you may need to adjust your basal dose a bit. I'd defintiely give your DSN a ring if you can as s/he'll be able to advise you. It can be really hard to get things right when you first go to uni/college - I know my diabetes was a complete mess when I first went to uni. Try not to...

    Replacing inner needle cap

I think you misunderstood a little - this thread is talking about putting the little inner needle cap back on the needle once you've used it to inject, not re-using the needle for more than one injection. :) I definitely wouldn't recommend re-using needles for more than one injection!

    Abscess

No worries - I don't mind sharing if it can help someone else! :D As for it running in families, it wouldn't surprise me if that's the case but I have no knowledge of this and it isn't true for me. That said, I have a list of medical conditions as long as my arm and nobody else in my family...

    What an Idiot!!!

You spoke to a doctor who advised you to eat a fried egg?? Who is this doctor?? I am HORRIFIED! How can they be a practising doctor and advise a diabetic who has overdosed on insulin to eat a fried egg?!? I almost wish you'd been rushed to hospital in an emergency just so that this...

    Abscess

It may be that you have this condition - remember your symptoms don't necessarily have to match EXACTLY - I've had a provisional diagnosis of hidradenitis supporativa and I don't get the acne type symptom, just striaght to the recurring deep abcessess. It can be associated with poor blood...

    Replacing inner needle cap

I've been using a preloaded pen and screw on needles for a little under 20 years and I've ALWAYS replaced the inner needle cap.... it wasn't until I recently started on Victoza and read the instructions with that injection that I realised the advice is to not replace the inner cap.... I had no...

Diabetes Type 2 is a lifestyle choice

 Like your post a lot!! If even the diabetics don't know the difference between the types of diabetes and how they develop, what hope do we have of anyone else properly understanding the differences?!

    VICTOZA users

I've found that anything on the 'rich' side, whatever food group it is, is a bit of a no-no. It was my birthday this week and I'd normally be able to factor in a few bits of birthday cake into my daily diet, with a little extra insulin, but I couldn't handle it at all now that I'm on the...

    VICTOZA users

A little update from me... Two months (yes, TWO MONTHS!) on victoza and the almost constant nausea has finally started to subside! I am no longer running to the toilet every half an hour and I am managing to eat more than just a couple of mouthfuls of something completely bland. I am so glad...

    Finally got it!

Haha, that's great, I love it! Well done you!!

    Finally got it!

It does infuriate me when medical practitioners think their opinion is the be all and end all just because they're the one with the qualification.... so what?!? It's my body and I know how I'm feeling far better than they do! I'm really glad you were able to hang in there and keep pushing for...

    Questions

Erm, since when has toast been bad? What type of toast are you eating? Anything from white to wholemeal will give you a sharp and fast rise in your sugar level. If you want to eat toast it is better to have a multigrain bread with actual lumpy grains in it as this will be processed...

Arrested for drunk in charge when actually Hyperglycaemic

Re: Arrested for drunk in charge when actually Hyperglycaemi Some people on this forum need to a) lighten up and b) learn some manners! It is not OUR forum, it is EVERYONE'S forum! No wonder Mirf is angry. She has every right to be angry, both at the treatment of her partner by the police and...

    DLA

I'd give it some more time if I were you. All areas of the benefits system have a huge backlog at the moment with the new changes and the overhaul of the way they do things etc etc. I do agree with tracey though... give them a call to see how things are going and to make sure they have...

Injecting in front of new people?

There are plenty of reasons NOT to do it in the toilet - hygiene being one of the biggest, especially if you're out in public..... the bathrooms in a public place are the last location I want to be doing my insulin! I would suggest that you try to overcome your awkwardness in telling people by...

Arrested for drunk in charge when actually Hyperglycaemic

Re: Arrested for drunk in charge when actually Hyperglycaemi Er, excuse me? Maybe I'm being gullible by taking the original post at face value, but that's what I'm doing. No cailesmark shouldn't have put the keys in the ignition and the police were completely within their rights to arrest him...

Type 1, with depression taking Mirtazapine

Hi. I'm type1 and have been on various anti-depressants for many years. I'm now on venlafaxine which helps with anxiety as well as depression. I would echo what others have said about needing to give the mirtazipine some time to work properly (and altering the time you take it!) - I know...

    Before meal hypo

Yup, I was confused about this for a long time too. You need to address the hypo and the meal as two separate things... like the others have said, treat the hypo first and then carry on as normal with the insulin for your meal once you've brought your sugar level up. :)

Too low to go to bed .. Bit urgent?

I would recommend trying to get a little more CHO into you if you can... 10-15g if possible. I don't know a lot about the low-carb diet but that sugar level is pretty low to go to sleep on. Hope you manage a good night's sleep! :)
