    Metformin and type 1

I have type1 and I've been on slow-release metformin for quite a few years now because of insulin resistance. I would urge you not to worry too much about the side effects as it may be that you won't get any at all and if it helps with managing your diabetes it may be worth it. The only side...

    Sweaty Dia-betty!

I think it could have some relation to the diabetes. Excess sweating can be associated with hormone imbalance. Maybe it's worth mentioning to the dr if it's a problem for you. I've read a few things that say a cause of excess sweating can be diabetes... nothing more specific than that though.

    Metformin

I don't know anything about body building but I am a type I who takes metformin. I've been taking the modified release version and am about to increase my dose after seeing my specialist. I also require very large amounts of insulin. As far as I know it has to do with insulin-resistance...

    just saying hello

Hi everyone! I've been a member for a little while so I thought I'd better come and say hello. I'm female, just turned 30, from the south of England and I've had type I since I was 11. My control isn't great and I have a whole host of other medical problems ranging from annoying to very...

    diabetes and sebaceous cysts

I suffer from these and my GP said it's fairly common for people with diabetes if their sugars aren't very well controlled.... mine aren't! I get them particularly in my groin area and they're extremely uncomfortable! Sometimes they get as big as golf balls in a big lump under the skin -...

    Late night snack ideas?

I don't think anything is advised as being off limits or 'not good' - it's more a case of everything in moderation. I love munching raw carrots if I'm feeling peckish, they have a sweetness which is quite satisfying. There's also a mousse-type thing that you can make with sugar-free jelly...

Any long term Type 1's not needed paramedics

I've been T1 for 19 years now and only had the paramedics called once - that was in Italy though. I was on a singing tour and had a hypo in my sleep... (singing is VERY energetic when you're doing it properly and I was so exhausted I didn't wake up). Luckily I was sharing a room with someone...

    DODGY BD SYRINGES AGAIN!!

Just thought I'd add that I use BD+ microfine needles for insulin pens and have noticed on at least five or six occasions that the needles have been bent / poking through the lid / broken. I hadn't considered that it could be a problem with counterfeit products!

Do you write down your blood test results?

I never write down my results either, although I'm testing all the time... my Dr always gently advises me that it might be a good idea so that we can look at the patterns of where my bloods are at what time, but he says it's not the most essential thing, just adviseable.

    Type 1s taken Metformin

I have type 1 and I've been on metformin for quite a few years. It's only reading this post and the replies that has made me realise that it's for insulin-resistance - always good to learn! With reference to why it's not good to be on high doses of insulin - I remember reading that it...
