    Channel 4

I had a whole long reply written out and my stupid phone deleted it. Anyway, the gist of it was : Aaaaaaarrghh!!! Stereotypes, misinformation, tax payers, blah blah blah.... What a shame channel 4 wasted such a good opportunity to really educate people. And can someone correct me if I'm...

    Channel 4

I'm watching it now on channel 4 +1... It's quite interesting but I shall reserve judgement until the end of the program. The most interesting bit so far though for me is that neither 'diet' is following NHS advice, haha! :D

    Victoza Pen Question

I've had this problem as, I suspect, have most diabetics trying to keep injections cool in this country lately. There is a thread somewhere on the forum here that mentions Frio bags. If you use the search function you'll find it. I can't work out how to post a link on my phone, sorry. Anyway...

    insulin and cool bags

My frio wallet was delivered on Friday and I LOVE IT!!! It's like magic, haha! It hasn't got below about 28degC in my flat for about a week now so I'm so glad I finally got one (thanks to members of this board, I might add!) I would definitely recommend it to anyone needing to keep injections...

    Diabetes UK Channel Swim Death

I hadn't realised she was raising money for diabetes! It's a shame they didn't make her charities more prominent in the news reports but that's a small matter. It is a horrible thing to happen, especially to someone who was trying to make a difference and improve the lives of other people...

    heart attack at 43

I had a heart attack at age 27 and required angioplasty and a stent. I'm 31 now and I've had T1 since I was 11. I was overweight and had fairly poor control but all the docotors were shocked that it happened so young. You never know what's going to happen. Statistics only show the trends...

If you take supplements, what do you take them for?

I chose 'general health' and 'other'. I have an eating disorder and other mental health issues which mean I don't have a good diet, so I take a multi-vitamin and also zinc to help with my generally poor-functioning immune system. I'm currently waiting for an appointment to see the doctor for...

Have you ever had mental health issues related to diabetes?

Re: Have you ever had mental health issues related to diabet Since reading about diabetes burnout today I now realise I should have selected that too. I had my 20yr anniversary of having type1 a few days ago and I'd say the first 1 1/2 - 2yrs were ok but the last 18 I've definitely had...

How can I make my doctor listen?

That's very interesting! I hadn't heard that before. I'm fairly certain I used to have moons and now I only have one feint one on one thumb... I think I need to investigate this B12 thing more. Thank you!

Why does metformin give me wind?

Hahaha... yep, metfartin! Gives me a good excuse to let go, so to speak!

How can I make my doctor listen?

they don't have the time or money to treat everything all at once... that's what it seems like anyway. I have found our health system severely lacking in terms of having an 'overall picture' of a patient - each thing is looked at separately and it feels like nobody gives two hoots if one...

Insulin smell strong or not ?

yeah, mine smell not too great, but they're by far not the worst things I've smelt! haha!

High Blood Sugar Levels - how long before dangerous?

Hi Riesenburg... that's really interesting! My cognitive function has deteriorated over the last decade or so... I always thought it had something to do with the fact I've been on various high doses of antidepressants over the years, but now I'm thinking that perhaps it has more to do with high...

    glucagon

I had it in the house when I was a child until I went to university. At that point I wasn't living with anyone who I knew enough or trusted enough to administer it. Since then I haven't had any in the house. The times I've needed it / needed medical assistance have happened in 'non-normal'...

Have you ever had mental health issues related to diabetes?

Re: Have you ever had mental health issues related to diabet I selected everything except diabetes distress and diabetes burnout because I didn't really know what they were. I was diagnosed T1 when I was 11. I'm now 31. I have suffered from depression since I was 14, possibly longer but it...

    West Coast Cooler Rose... appropriate?

:D I think moderation is the key with most things.... but then they say you can't have too much of a good thing! Maybe it's worth doing some trial and error adjustments with taking some insulin - I'm just wary of it because of the later effects of the alcohol lowering your blood...

Ridiculous food labeling for type 1 diabetes

Ha! I forgot about that... It does drive me nuts too when they give you total weight and then no weight for individual portions or pieces.

    sweating at night

I quite often get night-sweats... soaking wet all over, but especially my head and neck. I think it's hormone related personally, but then what do I know?! Sweating too much / night sweats is quite a common phenomenon among diabetics. Mine has decreased as I've been able to reduce my...

    West Coast Cooler Rose... appropriate?

I've never drunk it or even heard of it, but if it contains a lot of sugar then maybe consider taking a few units of insulin (if you're on the carb-counting basal bolus regime!) - but bear in mind that drinking alcohol is likely to end up lowering your blood sugar eventually if you have a lot.
