Hi Dave from another Dave :)

    Baked beans

Thanks everyone, I've been away because my PC broke but I'm back :) @Ledzeptt Thanks for that, I have been trying to hide some vegetables but it's difficult, I did think about putting them in a fruit drink but obviously fruit juice is out, so maybe a smoothie is an option. I was hoping they'd...

    Baked beans

Baked beans seem to take longer to raise my BG but I find that if I have them as a last meal, my BG is a little higher in the morning. I think that making my own now with reduced tomato, no sugar or salt will definitely help and adding bacon lardons will make it very tasty. :)

    Baked beans

@carty That sounds delicious :) I live opposite a lidl's. @Resurgam I "managed" a souffle omelette, it looked like something they would send back to the kitchen... my cooking is awful :) but it tasted fantastic and 2 hours later my BG had barely risen... that's quick and easy and I will make...

    Baked beans

@Resurgam well that with a little cheese is my dinner this evening :) The recipe I saw added the yolks by folding them in before any cooking but I've never managed to fold anything into egg whites and keep the air in, so this way is perfect thank you :) I'm going to get some mushrooms and...

    Baked beans

@Jogreen21 I'm just trying to find a way to make food appetising or to incorporate beans somehow... I'm still amazed I can eat fried food... the first thing I did was empty my fridge and freezer of eggs and bacon and cheese and threw away my frying pan and deep fat fryer ( I bought a Halo+...

    Baked beans

@Resurgam I just looked on food.com at souffle omelettes and they look tasty and filling, when I saw the word souffle I instantly thought flour oh no! but it's not like a baked souffle, it makes omelettes fluffy without flour. I'm already imagining button mushrooms warmed through in butter then...

    Baked beans

thank you @SWUSA_ I love mushrooms so that's good to know I can have them several times each week. I also love cheese and I've cut myself down on it because I used to have cheese on toast so too much bread and way too much cheese but, scrambled egg and cheese sounds great and I wouldn't feel the...

    Baked beans

Thank you @miahara I can see the carbs on that chart and was hoping that the fibre might justify the carbs, but maybe as , suggested earlier I might find some similar beans with a lower carb amount, also cooking myself I can remove all sugar and like you I don't have salt at home. In fact I have...

    Baked beans

Well I'm definitely going to try all the recipes and options, and at the moment I'm monitoring everything just so I can figure out what I can enjoy without spiking. I just gave away all my butter and use flora because it has less unsaturated fat.... maybe I should have kept the butter... Talking...

    Baked beans

Thank you all so much... coming to this forum has been brilliant, I'm learning so much. Thank you @mo53 that site has lots of great recipes and I've never heard of it before. Thank you @Ledzeptt That recipe is great, I have never tried Stevia or any sugar substitute, considering that I could...

    Baked beans

Thanks @Resurgam, I don't know why but I'm not really adventurous with food, I have a very limited range (I'm just a meat and potato person) so perhaps I will keep beans to my "reward list" which has nothing else on it :) I will sieve them and have a slightly bigger serving but only 2 times a...

    Baked beans

Thanks @Ledzeptt I think I could be happy with 75% of a tin of beans by sieving the sauce rather than 50% of a tin with sauce. And you're absolutely right abbout the taste of low sugar beans... :)

    Baked beans

if it is just the sauce, maybe I can make my own if there is a method or a recipe but if it is the beans themselves then I guess I will learn to live with that. It's strange that I was raised on dumplings and suet puddings meat and I used sweets as energy for work and ate a loaf of bread a day...

    Baked beans

Hello everyone, I'm Dave and as I'm newly diagnosed... I'm here in the... newly diagnosed section :) Apart from baked beans, potatoes and occasionally peas I do not eat any other veg. I no longer crave the chocolates, jellies, licorice and boiled sweets that I ate in vast quantities, nor do...

    Newbie on metformin

I'm glad to read you mentioning about the burn in your muscles... (I'm not glad you get the burn in your muscles) but it makes me feel better about my muscles burning when I climb stairs. (my father had bad circulation in his feet and both my parents were T2) I was worried my burning was...

    Diabetic experts recommend not testing??

I would add that one of the best things that testing has done for me was teaching me when to take my metformin. Initially I followed the directions until I increased to 3 x 500mg. Then, I was taking 1 with breakfast 8.30 am 1 with lunch 12.30 pm and one with my evening meal 5.30 pm. Mid...

    Diabetic experts recommend not testing??

I was diagnosed 4 weeks ago and I haven't seen a doctor in 6 months. My Surgery nurse doing my new patient check up decided to do a full blood test and a doctor rang 2 days later asking me to pick up my prescription before the surgery closed. I know T2 patients do not get monitors so I bought...
