    Suggestions to replace fruit please

Yes, that's why I said you need to control how much fruit you eat. The video also says that when people got fructose from natural sources - fruit and veggies, some 15 grams per day, everything was fine. It was when fructose was started to be added into other food, for taste or browning, and the...

    Suggestions to replace fruit please

My doctor always says a well-educated diabetic can eat anything - if you eat it in moderation and know how to include it into your diet and lifestyle. :) Fruit contains sugar, but it's fructose, which has GI 19, lowest of all natural sugars. You have to control the amount you eat, of course...

    Carbs confused!!

Yes, that's how it was explained to me. So if I know I'll have a long meeting in the office, I have a sandwich - so even if I have to skip a snack, I don't have hypo. But when I'm going jogging, in the weekend mornings, I have only bread. Works fine so far. :)

    Carbs confused!!

I'm not an expert, so I can only say what works for me. I have 150 grams of carbs per day - 40-10-40-10-40-10, the last 10 grams are optional. It seemed frightening and insufficient at first, then it felt too much (260 grams of potatoes for lunch, for example), now I learned to combine different...

    Sweetners

So true! But, baking can be done without any sweeteners - I'd never believe it a few months back, but it's true. Coconut and almond flour already have a specific taste, and combined with fruits and spices like cinnamon or cloves, sweeteners aren't necessary. I still use stevia for my coffee...

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

I have a diet with 15 carbs unit (1 unit = 10 grams of carbs). 4 for breakfast, 1 for snack, 4 for lunch, 1 for snack, 4 for dinner and 1 for the second dinner - but that one is optional. It's to avoid I get too low during the night, but for whatever reason, my sugar level doesn't drop during...

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Normally I have around 5.8, but these last two days I had 7.2 and 7.4 and I have no idea why. Yesterday I had 6.2 after dinner, then suddenly 6.7 at 2 a.m. (I always have 40 grams of carbs for dinner and I didn't have the second dinner) and over 7 in the morning. Then I took the insulin and...

Don't involve yourself in the blame game.

I was told it's the reason why diabetes type 2 gets such mimimum support from the state, unlike people that are on a gluten-free diet, for example (they get a montly contribution to buy flour) - because 'it's your own fault for getting it'. Sure, I'm overweight. And I have diabetes in my family...

What was everyone's blood when they go diagnosed?

Diagnosed in September, still not sure if it's 1 or 2, but 'most likely 2'. My new GP discovered it when she took my blod for some other tests - I had 24 mmol, and that was fasting reading. I'm pretty sure I had it for years, though, and my old GP never noticed.
