    Hba1c help

It sounds like you have been put through the wringer through absolutely no fault of your own. Are you claiming any disability related benefits? I would go to citizen's advice to discuss what you're entitled to. You need to eat healthily to manage your diabetes, and in your situation the...

    Hba1c help

Diabetes is difficult to come to terms with, but the important thing to remember is that it is manageable. It takes time. It takes effort. And there will be failures along the way. But you can get to the point where you are in control, rather than your diabetes controlling you. The best thing...

    Hba1c help

Sorry, I tend to take a while posting. I can have a tendency to over complicate things so I do lots of editing before I post a reply.

    Hba1c help

The first question is, do you know what the HBA1C actually measures? In simplified terms, it is like an average of your blood sugars over the last three to four months. The higher the HBA1C, the higher your blood sugars have probably been running over recent weeks. 66 high, but it's by no means...

    Hba1c help

Hi Tylers73, what was your HBA1C result? Let us know and we can offer some guidance on it.

    Diabetic retinopathy

Just a quick update, apologies if it seems I'm hijacking the thread. My letter referring to my screening arrived this afternoon. It said 'The tests detected changes in your eyes which may need further assessment, so we are referring you to the hospital eye clinic to see a specialist. The...

    Diabetic retinopathy

Hi Maidz, I'm in exactly the same position as you. I got the letter through saying an appointment had been booked for me at the ophthalmology clinic. This happened a week and a half after my retinal scan. The important thing is, don't panic! To be perfectly honest, I disregarded that rule and...

    Diabetes and depression

Hi Marc, we have very striking parallels. I'm 27 (28 next month), and have also had type 1 for 24 years. And I'm married too. I found that I was hiding my problems with my diabetes from my wife, and being withdrawn from her. This went on for years. I thought I was protecting her when actually I...

    got it all! (almost)

While technically accurate, I may have been generous with the description of 'kitchen.' We worked the 'food to go' section of a supermarket service station. Therefore it really wasn't hard to resist the temptation of what we were making!

    got it all! (almost)

Years ago I had a job where I was a type 1 diabetic, my colleague was a coeliac, and my manager had crohn's. This came up all the time as we worked in a kitchen!

Could anyone offer any advice if possible please?

You seem like you are able to commit fully to something if you can see the benefit of it. That single minded ness can be an extremely powerful tool. Have you come across Dr Richard Bernstein's complete diabetes solution? In hardback it's quite expensive, but it's practically a steal on kindle...

Could anyone offer any advice if possible please?

Have you ever thought about dispensing with the carbohydrate? Low carbohydrate means far less insulin, so easier to calculate an accurate dose. Search for Dr Troy Stapleton on YouTube, and watch his videos. They were revolutionary for me.

What is considered low doses of insulin?

To give you an idea, I currently take 12 units of long acting insulin. However, the pen can actually deliver 80 units in one go if needed!

    Hi folk

First up, you must never, ever feel worried about asking a question on this forum. For as long as you follow the path of managing your diabetes you are welcome to enquire about absolutely anything you need to. When it comes to type 2, there are a wide range of treatments, from diet alone...

Basal night dose very low - is this normal!

Basal needs vary massively by weight. I am currently on 15.5 units of Lantus (which may actually be too much but I'm about to be changed to Tresiba and that's another story). However, I'm 11 stone 7 and 5'11". I know a lady who is short and weighs next to nothing. Her basal dose is about five...

    HbA1c question

18 months ago my HBA1C was 5.8. Not bad for a type 1 diabetic, right? Wrong. Very, very wrong. My control was appalling. My 13s and 14s and 20s were offset by my 1.8s. My wife was being forced through the wringer, calling the paramedics or having to force sugar into me. The HBA1C is one tool to...

Should I consider a low carbohydrate diet

The best thing to do is look at the available information and make up your own mind. Go to YouTube and search Dr Troy Stapleton for great videos on eating low carbohydrate. Also, I strongly suggest reading 'Diabetes 101' by Jenny Ruhl. It gives very compelling evidence on how to manage diabetes...

    Question about insulin doses

Hi chl0ejasmine, welcome to the forum. My personal view is that low carb is by far the healthiest way for someone with diabetes to eat, because it makes blood sugar control easier to manage. Head over to the low carb section of the site, and you'll find plenty of people who have lost weight by...

    Chocolate brownies

Gave these a go yesterday, unfortunately the end result was more like charcoal. I spread the mixture way too thin, so it was really over cooked after 50 minutes. I will probably try again in the future though!

    Chocolate brownies

Will do, hopefully I can find time to make them on Saturday. Would love to try sooner, but I have roughly one mountain load of piano practice to do before the weekend.
