Type 1: When's the last time you had a hypo?

Good idea. I've never tried splitting the dose before. The last part of what you said is accurate - I had a meal with bolus at work then went to move heavy boxes, and quickly tanked my levels. The next time I went to work, I thought about that and made sure my sugar was a bit higher before -...

Type 1: When's the last time you had a hypo?

I had a call with my specialist today. I talked about my lows and she said she's more comfortable with me sitting around 8-10 instead of stressing about always staying around 6 because I've had so many lows recently. She gave me a new ratio to try out, a 1:5 instead of a 1:3.5 for more...

    Lots of lows

I just got off the phone with my specialist for a similar problem. She said something about how when you get a low, you're more likely to have lows again soon because the glycogen stores in the muscles are depleted and make it harder for you to get your levels to stay steady. As was suggested...

Type 1: When's the last time you had a hypo?

That seems to be what needs to happen. I'll speak with her tomorrow. For my first two weeks on insulin, I needed 10 units to cover the peanut butter toast. Lately, I've been using 7 units, using her suggested 3.5 I:C, but it may have to go lower now because 7 units with the same toast put me...

Type 1: When's the last time you had a hypo?

Ugh, I'm upset. So, I've had at least 5 hypos in the last 3 days - two today. I can't seem to get control of it and I'm about ready to just have a junk food meal to make it go above 8 for a while. I already can't notice one until I'm near 3.0, compared to the noticeable symptoms at 3.8 I had...

    Fractured my coccyx...

Pray to whatever that you heal properly. I slipped on some frozen mud outside once, and landed on my tailbone. Never broke anything, had to use a donut cushion for two weeks though. It has been 7 years and I still get discomfort in the muscle surrounding it, especially when doing squats or lunges.

Do I still need mealtime insulin if what I'm eating has basically no carbs?

Hello everyone. I took a correction dose of 3 units at 10 PM, to try and bring my 12.2 down to a more reasonable number before bed. I checked again at 12:30 PM and it had gone to 9.3 - at this time I took 2 more units. I shouldn't have done that, but since I hadn't been eating with these doses I...

Do I still need mealtime insulin if what I'm eating has basically no carbs?

Oh good, the site came back up in time for me to read this before I head out. I'm going to take whatever I need for fruit and check later. Thanks! EDIT: BG before eating was 5.3, I took a total of 8U to account for my fruit serving. This is exactly the same dose I had the last time I ate this...

Do I still need mealtime insulin if what I'm eating has basically no carbs?

I'm GUESSING yes because it all gets converted to sugar eventually, but here's the problem: I just had a 2:45pm lunch with 11U of NovoRapid. I know for a fact that my insulin's going to last another 3.5-4 hours, with most of its work done in the first 2. This is normally not an issue because my...

Peeing all the time - any advice?

That is a hell of a bump. Almost 3 years. How are your levels? That sounds like hyperglycemia if you're peeing all the time. Do you feel anything else?

Type 1: When's the last time you had a hypo?

I feel bad posting in this thread so often. It was my first day back to work. I had been sedentary for 3 weeks. At 2 pm I had a banana smoothie, dosed appropriately because it was the same ingredients, portions, and pre-meal BG as last time, my before was 8.0 I started my shift at 3pm, did...

Type 1: When's the last time you had a hypo?

I honestly don't know anymore. I did some more approximate math, just left out the fiber in the toast. There'd be 55.5g between the soup and the toast, and that ratio gives me 15.8 insulin needed. So ... IF that's correct, I took less insulin than I should have, and still went to hypo. What...

Type 1: When's the last time you had a hypo?

Me too. I'm anxious to start working out again, but I need to know how to prevent going low during a session or it'll have to end prematurely.

Type 1: When's the last time you had a hypo?

Your body and brain are getting used to hypos, so you're going to slip into them without the signs that it's happening. Please fix whatever's causing you to dip into them on a daily basis, or it will eventually harm you during your sleep or cause you to suddenly pass out while doing things...

Type 1: When's the last time you had a hypo?

Right, I understand that something like pizza will need a split dose due to the fat content, I just wasn't sure if a single slice of processed cheese would do anything - or if it had a role in this at all. Like you said, there's a lot of variables at play. I'm somewhat expecting a hypo this...

I keep thinking back to how close I was to dying from a disease I didn't know I had.

I'm not going to waste optimism on a cure, but hey, it'd be nice if any progress would be made. I am learning a lot each week and hopefully once I understand my levels more, and what sets off my spikes, I can go back to the occasional treat. Right now, my snack food is unsalted peanuts...

What age were you diagnosed Type 1?

    25. The timing sucks. I was just getting back into strength training and trying to bulk up on a high-carb diet of course...

Type 1: When's the last time you had a hypo?

Aw hell, I did it again. I did my calculations right and everything. I think. My carb ratio is 1:3.5 Pre-meal BG: 8.0 Meal was.. 1 1/2 cup minestrone soup (19g carbs per 1 cup, minus 3g fiber) 1 grilled cheese sandwich, 2 slices brown toast (15g carbs per) Total insulin needed: About 12, I...

    Eating out

What I've done so far with restaurants, because my family does enjoy at least 1 night out a week, is I try to search up [restaurant name] nutritional info on my phone while I'm waiting for my drink. If the restaurant has a website, they often have a pdf full of the meals they offer along with...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

It was 7.7 before I went to bed at 10 PM, and it was 7.6 at 10 AM when I got out of bed. I think I hit the Lantus sweet spot.
