    Half marathon training

Today I ran my first half marathon during my training. My plan was to run 10 k but then my form was good after 2 recovery weeks after my last triathlon for the season, so I made it a half marathon. Since I was in the US (Maryland) I had no mobile data, so no glucose on my Garmin Forerunner 955...

    Type 1 and triathlon

True. But the description of this Olympic triathlon is still very valuable even though it is from 2015.

    Type 1 and triathlon

I use continuous glucose monitoring (Abbot Libre 2 or 3) with my mobile phone as the reader. Mobile phones and smartwatches are banned by the official rules, so you have to ask the technical director ahead of the competition. I have performed in 5 triathlons since August 2022 (all in Norway)...

Does anyone have experience with lactate testing for endurance exercise?

I, too, noted that my cycling lactate curve has a hump. I don't have any explanation yet. I still have no data on why my DIY lactate curves showed such an early rise at low activity level. I maintain my ketoacidosis hypothesis but I have no measurements to support it as yet. The important thing...

Does anyone have experience with lactate testing for endurance exercise?

Thanks a lot for pointing out that my full name was in the screenshot. This wasn't intentional, but I don't mind. I decided long ago that I am not going to keep my diabetes secret. The results of the competitions including the full names of the competitors are online anyway; that's part of the...

    Type 1 and triathlon

Excellent! I, too, did an Olympic triathlon this year, but being M60 I needed 3:01:53.

Does anyone have experience with lactate testing for endurance exercise?

Stig at terskeltest.no knows his stuff. He sent me instructions a week before. I was forbidden to train the day before the test. I needed to take the bus as I was to warm up under his supervision. On Monday at 8:40 we tested my lactate threshold for running and then my VO2 max. On Wednesday at...

Does anyone have experience with lactate testing for endurance exercise?

Time for me to report the latest results. I concluded the season with the Triatlon Sprint at Os on 10 Sept 2024. This year it was cold and raining. The transition zone was a mud bath. So I was 2 min slower than last year My total was 1:31:04 h (2022: 1:29:08): 18:43 for the 750 m swim (2022...

    Half marathon training

Another important detail: Since July I managed to connect my Abbot Libre 3 CGM to my Garmin Forerunner 955 so that I get my blood glucose on my watch. I can then fine tune my blood glucose by drinking High 5 sports drink. Last time I did this on my Triathlon Sprint on Sunday. My watch had missed...

Does anyone have experience with lactate testing for endurance exercise?

I successfully re-engineered the TaiDoc meter. Each batch of strips (be it lactate or ketone) comes with a coding chip. The chip contains a batch specific number such as 180, apparently for calibration. However, it also contains the batch's expiry date. If the batch is expired, you will get...

    Half marathon training

I personally fill a squishy bottle such as the Osprey Hydraulics 500ml SoftFlask with High5 sportsdrikk and hold it in my hand while running 5 km. 2 such bottles and 2 hands for 10 km. No sloshing. Can be stashed away when empty.

HELP NEEDED Fitness Trackers / Smart Watch

I wear a Garmin Forerunner 955. It can be paired with xDrip running on your phone and display your blood glucose from a CGM in real time.

    Freestyle libre and sport

For me, all generations of Libre (1, 2 and 3) stayed on despite my doing regular swim/triathlon training, without any aids. I would try the sensor without any add-ons first.

    Aerobic Fitness and Blood Pressure

I am 59,183 cm, 87 kg. 4 years ago I started getting insulin resistance on top of my DM1 (which I have since 2004). I got rid of insulin resistance by losing 15 kg (I was 100 kg in 2019) through some dietary adjustments (no more cake, only 70+ % cocoa chocolate) combined with aggressive training...

    Is insulin necessary?

You also need some amount of insulin to fend off ketoacidosis.

Anybody like Cycling here for hobby

M60. DM1 since 2004, MDI. Cycle some 80 km/week all year round. Did 3 triathlon sprints (750 m open water swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run) in 2022 and my first Olympic triathlon (twice the distance) in 2023. xDrip on my Garmin Forerunner 955 has been a game changer!

Does anyone have experience with lactate testing for endurance exercise?

I decided a pedal power meter was easier to move between bikes, but in the end I equipped both bikes with a Garmin Rally RK 100. I would expect that all surrogate measures of functional threshold are somehow correlated - be they based on actual lactate testing (gold standard in non-diabetics; I...

Does anyone have experience with lactate testing for endurance exercise?

I found this review on hand-held meters. They are reasonably cheap (cheaper than lactate meters and testing strips) https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/keto/best-ketone-meter Probably a better option than a continuous sensor. I am very dependent on my Abbott Libre 3 CGM. I already had a...

Does anyone have experience with lactate testing for endurance exercise?

Google came up with a new advertisement just for me: A continuous ketone monitor: https://www.sibiosensor.com/products/sibio-ks1-continuous-ketone-monitoring-sensor The advert looks serious enough, but I would wait for reviews before buying it. I am now in the tail end of my yearly training...

Does anyone have experience with lactate testing for endurance exercise?

That's why taking a 30 min time trial at maximum steady state effort for the sole purpose of estimating one's lactate threshold is not a good idea. I reserve this kind of effort for competitions (which makes the data from competition so interesting.) That's why actual lactate measurements are...
