A letter to work "Day 3 of returning after 5 weeks"

It's all got way out of hand. To much talk and people justifying how they feel and saying they've heard been told someone else said. You need to get to the situation where you can all sit down and have discuss the issues with an independent person with good man management skills in charge of...

Help how can i lose weight

Is their a good website that I can look at to find out what I can eat to follow low-carb diet - please don't say http://www.diabetes-diet.org.uk/ I find it very difficult to read purely because of the colours and layout of the pages. I haven't actually read much of it as the red text in...

    tingles

I have had a lot of tingling and numbness in my fingers - mainly my little and ring fingers of my right hand. As Sue suggested this is due to problems with, in my case, the ulnar nerve. I had some Nerve Conduction tests which showed that there is no peripheral neuropathy, which I was worried...

    ??????????????

I asked the blood transfusion service if I would ever be able to give blood - I used to, but being diagnosed with epilepsy and taking AEDs put a stop to that! I wondered what the criteria is for donating, which is why I emailed them. Their reply, as far as the diabetes element of my question...

    Statins?

I have been taking simvastatin for at least 4 years. amongst the other pills and potions I take is irbesartan , an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, for my blood pressure. I've had no problems with the simvastatin, apart from forgetting to take it sometimes when I'm exhausted!

    Why measure waist?

I think - and I may be wrong - that people with relatively large waist measurements are more prone to conditions that associated with being overweight. That includes diabetes and heart disease as far as I can remember. Waist measurement seems to give a better indication of the likelihood of...

    when to check?

Hi DiabeticGeek, From what you've just said, can I take it that you're controlled by diet and exercise? No pills of insulin?

    when to check?

Could everyone who says how many times a day they test let us know whether they're type 1 or type 2? As I understand it, it makes a big difference! Also, it would be interesting to know what people were advised to do. I have type 2. I test 2 or 3 times a week. I was advised to test 2 times a...

    Not a joke...........

I'm thinking about complaining about the lack of weight loss - especially as they keep weighing me and telling me I need to lose weight. :? I read about some young women/girls with diabetes deliberately not controlling it so they'll lose weight. I thought about it for a second...

To test or not to test...

I used to be a pharmaceutical analyst analysing blood samples so I'm also inclined to experiment and report the results 'properly', as our lecturers spend years training us to do! Now I software test analyst developing scripts to check the software meets the requirements fully. Then I have to...

To test or not to test...

Hi Dennis, Thanks for your response - I am interested to know what people think, and how they come to their conclusions. As you say, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I'm being a bit nosy I think  My comment about testing your blood glucose levels telling you what you...

To test or not to test...

This post is probably going to annoy a lot of people as most of the posters seem to have a completely different viewpoint than me. I don't want to stir up a storm, but on other forums I use people tend not to post what they think if the more vocal people have a different opinion. Anyway - here...

If a weight-loss pill as good as their blurb says it is... It'll be all over the front pages it'd be wall-to-wall ads on the telly! And you could see the end of the queue from here.... I live in hope

Do you believe the diet advice from dietician for type 2

One of the bits of advice both my diabetes nurse and dietitian gave me was to look into low glycemic index foods. Which I'd never heard of, but is all over the diet pages now. I am probably telling you something you already know here  Basically, some food is digested quicker in the...

Do you believe the diet advice from dietician for type 2

Hi all, That's a long winded way of saying... When I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes I saw a dietitian who told me that, basically, the 'diabetic diet' is no more. We should be having the same healthy balanced diet that everyone else should be eating. That's the basic advice I have been...

    Glucose meter without control solution?

One of the things you have to consider with control samples is are they out-of-date. They should only be used for a limited amount of time after you've opened them. I can't remember what happens to make them 'go off' though. It should say on the bottle or in the info you get with the...

    Not a REAL diabetic............

I was thinking - as well as diabetes I have epilepsy. but my seizures are fully controlled. On the basis of what your workmate said, does that mean I don't really have epilepsy? Yipeee I'm cured! Wouldn't that be great? Cured in the sense if you stop doing the things that control it you...

Govt - Self Testing NoNo - for attention Admin

I have to say that I have found testing my blood and worrying about the results very stressful. Especially after I was diagnosed over 6 years ago now. I still worries me, but as my diabetes nurse doesn't even look at my results I'm less stressed about them. As my HbA1c levels have been in the...
