Many thanks @Avocado Sevenfold, all of the above is really helpful! I've low carb'ed before with the staple of meat and fish, it will be a hell of a shock without I think! Re sugar and sweeteners; I will have sweeteners because without which I cant drink tea and that will make life utterly...

    Dexcom G4 or G5?

This has changed now, you can get a transmitter without a receiver for G5 I've heard from a number of places. also the G5 sensors can go over the same as the G4 ones (they are actually the same thing) it just needs a restart.

    Stop finger pricking!

Those are the length of time they are in warranty for not how long they last ;) If you are on facebook join the xdrip G5 group. @iHs am I wrong about transmitter? I thought you got 2 for £200?

    Stop finger pricking!

then you need to get a receiver (cost as far as ive seen £650 and you cannot use G4 for G5 or vise versa), I would suggest picking up a cheap second hand iphone to keep costs down.

    Stop finger pricking!

No thats the transmitter which is clipped to the sensor very much like Libre. only difference is you keep reusing the transmitter unlike libre where you throw it away

    Stop finger pricking!

Something very similar with the G5, google it and you'll see it. Then you have an iphone near you and it sends from the sensor to the phone automatically. It then alarms if your bg is below or above a set range that you decide on. no scanning involved.

    Stop finger pricking!

I think its more to do with the variation in operating systems, you can follow the G5 on an android phone but it cant receive. sensors = 48 each (upto 4 weeks) transmitter = £250 for 6 months (potential to 'hack' the battery for reuse with xdrip)

    Basal testing/dawn phenomenon

Best thing about a pump is it works out all your doses ect! Seriously, I would try and go for a pump, it will probably be much easier than you think and will especially deal with DP

    Stop finger pricking!

I honestly believe you might be better off with a dexcom G5 now they have come down in cost significantly
