Type 1's live till their about 80?

One of my old bosses said to me "You will probably outlive us all because you're constantly under the spotlight." I have ignored predictions for most of my life. I have at least outlived that boss!:hilarious:

@saucequery This is a perfectly sound response quoting reputable links to back up your view.

    Insulin smell

I think @Jaylee is close with "faint Dettol". It's a distinct smell like nothing else, and certainly not like any of the above!

    Insulin smell

I used to get alcohol on prescription - no I wasn't That desperate! It was industrial meths and smelt like a chemistry lab. Surgical spirit, which had a nasty bitter taste, was prescribed before that.

    Insulin smell

Blimey that brings back memories @Jaylee !

    Insulin smell

So far I think @Jaylee 's description of "faint Dettol' is the closest. It took me straight back to the smell, especially as a result of dislodging an air bubble in a glass syringe. and yes, it reminded me of hospitals.

Help !! T2D and suddenly Chronic Kidney Disease

@Rosie9876 First of all I completely understand your fears. It is impossible for me to begin to guess what the true position is, and even if I could I would not be allowed to offer a course of action. However, I can say that the word Chronic doesn't help. There are four stages of CKD. I started...

    Eyesight better on insulin?

@debs248 From 1958-2013 I hadn't needed glasses at all, but all I have used since then is reading glasses and anti-glare for driving. I hope you keep yours intact.

    Eyesight better on insulin?

Hi @Deborah Lidgley and welcome to the forum. Although this post was last responded to more than six years ago, and therefore you might not get a reply from @pab99c , it will always be relevant. I was taken to the optician in 1971 because I could not read the station name on the opposite...

    Whole recipes for one.

If you have a local Lakeland that would be useful. Near us in Suffolk we have specialist family run shops who are willing to help answer all sorts of requests. Maybe if you google "cooking shops" you should find a local map of specialists where you are. I hope you are making headway!

    Whole recipes for one.

Hi @jsampson To be realistic I doubt that you will find anything which will give you such a comprehensive requirement. I think you might start with a dish which you are interested in and search for that via the sites @KennyA has listed. Then you could take the recipe to a cooking shop and ask...

Are more people getting Type 1 in their late twenties and early thirties?

My money is on your colleague @Melgar . For decades I was ridiculed for attributing my diagnosis to wasp stings, but now it is taken as a possibility.

Coffee and Insulin Spikes in the morning.

Thank you @jabalka for the warm wishes. I am not in any way offended, but simply pointing out that none of us can use our personal experiences as absolutes. I am more offended by being instructed as to how I should read or interpret posts. I always read a complete post and digest it before...

Coffee and Insulin Spikes in the morning.

@jabalka Having been Type 1 from 1959 - 2013, my BG management was never impacted by caffeine, and even now I drink a lot and my blood chemistry is exemplary (checked every 3 months) in spite of not being allowed to exercise significantly. It's fine to say "in my experience", but generalising is...

How do I stop fearing this disease?

Hi @AdamMo95 I just wanted to try and reassure you. Hypos can be terrifying and are certainly a curse. Between 1959 and 2013 I must have had at least 100. Some were so bad that I had total memory failure temporarily. The media doesn't help by publishing headlines like "Mother's life saved by...

    Feel incredibly guilty

In my case I had cellulitis many times caused by extremely poor kidney function. Although this was directly caused by diabetes, I agree that people can suffer from poor kidney function for other reasons.

    Feel incredibly guilty

You certainly shouldn't feel guilty @Spine Wars 2023 as cellulitis is a serious condition and, as you state, needs dealing with quickly. I hope things have improved for you.
