Curious! How and what do you all take to treat your hypos?

I agree. A hypo for me is the perfect excuse to have something that's normally forbidden!

    Bedtime BG?

I'd be interested to know what sort of BG most people are happy to go to bed with. I like to be 10 as that means no hypo in the night, but I'm wondering if it's too high. I've tried reducing the pm dose by one unit but then I was too high in the morning. If I'm 10 at bedtime I'll be 4-5 when I...

Curious! How and what do you all take to treat your hypos?

If I'm at home I drink some fruit juice (raspberry and rhubarb is my favourite). If I'm out I'll eat a Goodies bar. They're 16g of carb and 116 calories. Actually quite nice. A sort of soft oaty bar, no nuts, and the apricot or raspberry is rather nice. It's a fine line between something I don't...

Curious! How and what do you all take to treat your hypos?

I had to stop buying Nutella as I was eating it straight from the jar without the excuse of a hypo! Yummy stuff.

    weight watchers

I'm type 1 and I was on WeightWatchers for just over a year and lost a stone and a half. Yay! Didn't have any problems, just followed normal insulin regime but was obv eating less carbohydrate. But lots of bananas. Got fed up with them actually. I also used the app, which isn't bad. So go for...

    Supermarket Online Shopping Substitutions

I've been shopping with Ocado for years and am extremely happy with them. They rarely make substitutions but on the rare occasion that something I have ordered is not available, they tell me by text if they have made a substitution. So I have the choice of accepting it or not. If I choose not...

    What App?

I think it's by far the best of the ones I've looked at. It's so much more than just a diary and the bolus advice is invaluable. Let's hope it's a case of 'you get what you pay for'? The chap who designed it is a type 1 himself apparently.

    What App?

Seems to me it's pretty much swings and roundabouts. I haven't yet found an app that does everything I'd like. I've been using the Aviva Expert which is a smart meter and really like it for the bolus and correction advice, but the screen is too small for the graphs to be much use, apart from the...

How do you record your diabetes?

To put it bluntly, you need to get a grip. You really cannot carry on like this. You are not in control and you are risking complications. I know it's a pain, but you absolutely must get on top of this. Sorry for sounding so harsh. But your average blood glucose from your HbA1c is very high. I...

    RapidCalc

I've just forked out the £5.99 for it and have just set it up. Curious to see what its reports are like. With the Expert I'd have to shell out £25 for the cd. The screen on the Expert is too small to make the reports there practical, although I do use the averages info quite a bit. I'm going to...

    RapidCalc

Is anyone using this? I'd be interested to know how you get on with it and what you think. I've been using the Accuchek Aviva Expert (my new best friend. Sad but true) and came across RapidCalc while reading a review of the Expert. The reviewer was quite scathing about the Expert and compared it...

    Remember when ?

Crumbs Anaelena how long have you been diabetic? I remember coming home after diagnosis (I was in hospital for two weeks) with a large brown paper bag containing bottles of urine testing sticks and frightening looking glass syringes the size of bicycle pumps! No BG meters back then. I was quite...

    30 years in.....

Hi MattyO Welcome to the forum. I only joined recently but I've received lots of useful advice, support and friendly, funny comments. I wish I'd found this forum years ago. Anyway. Phew! It's a real ******* isn't it? I was diagnosed on 30th June 1980 when I was 30. It must have been even...

    Got to read this one

Never touch the stuff. Don't know why anyone would! Apart from all that, it's ghastly.

Paramedic making decisions on Type1's ability to look after his children.

Apparently the father does not have hypo awareness, but he does seem to have good back up plans in place. I think the paramedic overreacted but without hearing his version of events it's not fair to jump to a conclusion either way. If he saw two young children in the care of someone who had...

Would you take a cure if it became available? Curious?

I had to look that up. Haha!

    There's no pleasing some people....

How silly. Surely it doesn't matter how much or little carbohydrate one eats if it's all carbo counted and insulin is injected to correspond. Well obv you wouldn't go bonkers with it, health wise. Must have spoilt your 'moment if glory' a bit. Anyway, well done from me.

Does this happen to all Type 1's...?

Hello wurst. It's a shame they can't get some tips or words of wisdom from the genius distant diabetic friend/relative. Would make things so much easier for all of us!
