    High Hba1c

all good advice above. big breakfasts, take food with you, avoid supermarkets when you're hungry - though boredom may be a bigger problem. before you eat biscuits, sweets, etc., drink a large glass of water, and wait 10 minutes to see if you can go a little longer without anything. really...

    nov diagnosed. t2

hi, welcome to the forum. hindsight ... hmm, if i had a penny for every pound of chocolate and pastry i've eaten over the last forty years, i'd make Bill Gates look like a pauper .... you're not alone in having had bad habits in the past!!! :)

    weight loss

HI, welcome to the forum. how much weight do you want to lose? i have been on a lchf diet now for about 18 months, and i lost about a stone over the first year, and nothing since - i guess my body now responds to my lchf diet as its normal maintenance diet. i don't actually want to get any...

Newly Diagnosed and looking for some answers

hi, welcome to the forum. i was diagnosed with a similar result to yours (104). on metformin and cutting out sugar and sweet foods my levels came down quite quickly, and i was off metformin after about a year, with an hba1c in the 50s. however, my levels slowly rose again, even though i was...

How I achieved a pretty good turnaround

great story, well done. we all need to encourage each other as much as we can :)

    Exercise

i was advised to do at least five minutes fairly high-energy exercise as soon after waking as possible, in order to get my system going. the nutritionist who suggested lchf to me said that, in order for my pancreas and the rest of my system to reset itself, i should do exercise that involved...

    LOW CARB SUCCESS STORIES

oh life can be unfair!!! i love oats but i can't eat them .... :depressed:

    LOW CARB SUCCESS STORIES

watch out for the oats, they can really push sugar levels up - although they are classed as relatively low carb, they still contain a substantial amount - so probably a good idea to test and see what they do to your levels if they are a staple for you.

    LOW CARB SUCCESS STORIES

hi, sorry about the delay in replying, i've been away so haven't been on the forum. i tend to eat two meals a day, unless i have an early start, then i eat three. but i always make sure i leave at least 5 hours between finishing one meal and starting the next (though my second meal often goes on...

    shocked and stunned

as many have already said, the good news is that you are not yet diabetic, so you can still avoid the damage to your eyes, kidneys, hands and feet that leahkian describes. i was diagnosed t2 about 4 years ago, but because it seems i'd had it for about 5 years before diagnosis, my eyes and feet...

    Hard to cope with diabetes?

hi, i downloaded and read it last night. thanks very much for sharing your thoughts and experiences on having diabetes. there's no doubt that psychology is really important when learning how to live with this disease. i have no idea what it's like being diagnosed as a child and growing up having...

Foods with hidden sugar and carbs? What caught you out?

oh great, thank you, we've got a few polish shops near to where i live, so i'll browse around and see what i can find.

Foods with hidden sugar and carbs? What caught you out?

soy sauce, gherkins and taramasalata .. i was really unimpressed when i discovered that sainsbury's own brands have sugar in them. kikkonen make soy sauce without sugar (but beware their low-salt version, as that does have sugar in it). i really struggle to find any gherkins without sugar, as...

    Hba1c down again :)

yeah, it feel like a life sentence sometime, doesn't it? - i suppose it is, in a way. but i have found it getting easier with time (18 months lchf now) and i have realised that i can afford to fall off the wagon occasionally, as long as i don't make a habit of it. :)

Indigenous diet to western diet + poverty = diabetes

hmm, i suspect it's not only the indigenous people who are affected like this. if we consider how western diets and lifestyles have changed over the last 70 years or so - far more sugar in the diet, far less exercise, i.e. far less manual labour, loads of labour-saving appliances, relatively...

    brilliant results, well done!

    feet

sounds like neuropathy, but probably a good idea to get a definite diagnosis one way or the other. there's nothing the medics can do about it, so if it is that, it's really important to keep your bg levels as low as possible, as that should stop it getting worse, and it may improve. i have had...

    Couch to 5K ?
