    Type 1 a question

GL=GI x carbohydrate/100 Glycemic load is a better measurement because it takes the serving size into consideration. In theory this means that you can eat small amounts of high GI foods without significant effect on blood sugar. I don't like GI because it promotes the idea of low GI foods as...

    Needles

Hi @Starxgirl, I've had this happen a few times when I didn't stick the needle deep enough. Guess it's just the insulin that pools directly under your skin because the injection's too shallow. It doesn't seem to make any difference to the absorption. If it was me and I felt more comfortable...

    Beaten the Virus

I was really sick for three weeks with perfect blood sugar the whole time. It baffled me, because normally any sign of a cold and it shoots up. When I finally started to feel better a few days ago, the blood sugar went up to sick levels. Not sure what's going on, but there's some weird immune...

    Post 12 weeks shielding

No. Even if you'd catch it, you wouldn't necessarily be immune against reinfection. With most viruses you are, but no one knows with this one yet. Also immunity is typically for a few months, not for life. On top of that, the virus could mutate so that your immune system wouldn't recognize it...

    Best Carb Counting App?

Don't worry, you're not going mad. It's just me going blind :)

    Best Carb Counting App?

+1. This is brilliant and well worth the money. When did they add the food data base? Maybe I'm just blind and it was always in there. The feedback from this app really helps you stay on top of your diabetes.

    Best Carb Counting App?

You could try MyFitnessPal as an alternative. I used the free version to count calories and carbs in the past and it worked well. Not sure about the best though.

Breathing issues since diagnosed Type 1

Hi @Donna1984 there's a rare side effect where insulin can cause breathing problems. It happened to me twice when I switched to toujeo. https://www.drugs.com/sfx/toujeo-solostar-side-effects.html Both times it took weeks for the breathing problems to appear, and weeks for them to disappear...

    Conflicting advice - masks

The CDC came out yesterday and said up to 25 percent of people could be silent carriers. Please protect yourself and others by wearing a mask. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/31/health/coronavirus-asymptomatic-transmission.amp.html Edit: There are lots of videos online about how to make one...

    Conflicting advice - masks

Although it's now required by law, it would be considered anti-social behavior not to wear a mask here. This article captures the mood: https://news.expats.cz/coronavirus-in-the-czech-republic/the-czech-republic-is-a-model-of-anti-coronavirus-measures-writes-the-washington-post/ The lock-down...

Insulin for Low Carb High Protein (Bernstein Protocol)

Hi, I started following the Bernstein diet shortly after I was diagnosed and it's been a year now. My approach is slightly looser as I eat up to 50g of carbs a day and some of the foods that are on the no-no list. You learn the rules then bend them. For insulin, I take ActRapid (short-acting or...

    Coping with the Virus

Hi there, I've been sick with a respiratory illness for three weeks and finally started feeling better a couple of days ago. What a nasty bug. It started as a simple cold, and turned into pneumonia with breathing problems during the second week. I've been in self isolation the whole time so...

Anyone definitely had Corona with a comorbidity and come though this?

Here's a nice one: https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.businesstoday.in/lite/story/coronavirus-102-year-old-italian-woman-recovers-successfully-docs-call-her-immortal/1/399497.html There's a 102-year old man in Italy who also just recovered. I showed it to my grandmother and it made her very happy...

Anyone here recover from burning feet and/or hands?

You don't think it could be something in the LCHF diet? Like magnesium deficiency. It can cause burning hands, and is likely if you eat a lot of dairy and drink caffeinated beverages on top of low carb. Might be worth trying supplements for a few weeks to see if it makes any difference.

Anyone here recover from burning feet and/or hands?

Hi @Caprock94 sad to hear you're still in pain. My first post here was asking about this, and I remember your friendly reply hoping things would get better for both of us. I got lucky, after a couple of months of treatment-induced neuropathy things went back to normal. It was awful while it...

    Itchy skin

I had this problem for months before I was diagnosed with DKA. It's the worst itch I've ever experienced and I would scratch my arms and legs until it bled. Then some more. I tried changing washing powders, creams, wearing loose fitting clothes but nothing worked. Once my blood sugars came down...

Should I be worried? Eye screening

Hi, Sorry about your eyes. Don't blame yourself maybe it can be fixed again. I don't know anything about diabetic maculopathy, but I just wanted to say that when I was diagnosed with diabetes my eyes were in a terrible state. It happened over a course of months and in the end it was so bad I...

    Low carb diet and HbA1c

I'd like to see this happen too, because achieving a good HbA1c when dosing for normal eating must be difficult. There's a study of the typeonegrit community who have an average HbA1c of 5.7% (39 mmol/l) compared to the average 8.2% (66 mmol/mol) for T1's which speaks for itself...

    T1/Low Carb help please

Don't do this, you'd be eating to the insulin and not the other way around. The best insulin to use for protein is regular or short-acting, it peaks later and follows the slower glucose release. Dr Bernstein's Diabetes Solution is the book to read if you're looking for info on insulin and a low...
