    Type1 newly diagnosed and struggling

On what to eat: vegetables, lots of them. Fat is fine too. Eggplants are great, broccoli also, nuts (especially walnuts), tomatoes, salad, fine beans. Also some meat is good, eggs are great, chicken, turkey, beef, etc. Try to avoid fruits as they are super sweet (depends which ones though). I am...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

4.4 at 10 AM down from 7.7 at 4 AM. Definitely too much basal. I was gonna basal test all day but I think it's unnecessary now. It's been going down like that all week overnight.

    Frequency of hypos

Hi, I was wondering what someone would expect as an OK frequency for hypos. I basically had a hypo every day this week, but nothing under 3.4 and always very controlled. It's usually slow hypos so not that dangerous (morning or end of bolus action). I wish to reduce that number but I am not sure...

    So...

I've had exactly the same. How is it rubbish? (I haven't been on the website for long sooo I don't really know)

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

7.4. I don't know if this is high... I am personally satisfied if it is under 8. Today all my 8 tests were between 6.9 and 8. This is outstandingly flat, I've never had such a flat line in a day for... well ever? @phdiabetic do you drink juice usually during the night?

Type 1 diabetic & struggling to lose weight

Your problem sounds like those hypos only, as it seems you are motivated to change your diet and keep up with it. So it simply boils down to pinning down what causes the hypos. When I started reducing carbs my basal dropped as well, because it triggers changes in your overall metabolism. Thus I...

    Terrifying hypo :(

Did you have alcohol the night before? Even one pint of beer can do the trick, because it blocks your liver, and prevents it from releasing glucose into the blood, therefore effectively looking like you just had an injection. This effect is usually 5-6h after a drink, and I need about 40g of...

    Yoghurt alternatives

I don't get it, yoghurt is normally low carb in the first place, granted you don't buy the flavored ones or so, which have 17-25% sugar of course. The yogurt I buy (the Tesco one, about a pound for 500g) is 5.5% sugar. In fact I like it a lot, and my breakfast was coffee and a whole 500g pot of...

    My Sugr App Questions

Deviation is either standard deviation or standard error of the mean I guess (abbreviated STD and SEM usually). You can google them to learn more about them but basically it tells you how much you sugat varies. Basically: If you have two readings such as 4 and 7, your average will be 5,5. If...

I know I need low carbs but what about fat?

Cheese contains proteins and I count for that as well (which has helped me a lot be more accurate). I do put olive oil a lot, especially for frying eggplant and for tomatoes and feta (yummy). I am from near the Mediterranean so I love olive oil anyway :) I actually tried butter in my broccoli...

Is the LCHF diet costing you more money?

Oh really? Sounds bad, I'm glad you can grow your own stuff then. And it's great physical activity, so double healthy! Mu father grows quite a bit of stuff as well, he enjoys it and it actualky tastes better than supermarket products... Especially fine beans :)

Is the LCHF diet costing you more money?

Feels a bit cheaper to me. No snacks anymore, vegetables are super cheap, and you need to plan out your shopping list better. But I don't do intermittent fasting. At least it's not more expensive.

    Celebrating latest hba1c

Congratulations! Great response to the receptionist ;) Very good question, I would like an answer too! Through my readings on this forum it seems T2 diabetic can have lower results more easily, especially when they act on it early, but I have no strong evidence of this. For instance I have...

I know I need low carbs but what about fat?

I completely aggree. The fact is, if you eat more vegetables (as you should in LCHF) it is actually very hard to eat enough calories because they fill your stomach up so much. When I started I ate all I could and ended up around 1600 kcal a day. I actually had to almost force feed myself in...

    Basal/bolus question

The idea with diabetes is simple. If you manage to regulate it well, your body will be EXACTLY as fine as if you were non diabetic. This sounds easier to say, because managing your diabetes is actually a difficult thing to do. However, you've just been diagnosed and it takes a long time to get...

Low carb - but high sugars - advice please!

After a couple days I am very positive that my insuline sensitivity has been restored to much more normal levels. The issue is that I need now to pin down back again my diet a bit and my insulin dosage, so I have been experiencing some highs here and there, but nothing as critical as those 3-4...

Low carb - but high sugars - advice please!

Hi, This is a very interesting thread! I have had the exact same problem as you @Odin004. I switched to low carb about a month and a half ago. I am now between 50 and 80g carbs per day; I aimed initally at 120g but ended up slowly reducing inconsciusly... I was at about 190g/day before...
