    Type 1 Post meal spikes

How long does your post meal spike tend to last? I can't get my head round mine! Since getting my Libre I've been much more aware of what is happening with my glucose levels at all times, and I'm finding my glucose spikes after eating to be a bit confusing. Today for example, I had beans on...

    Freestyle libre

I wouldn't do that either. There's a reason Abbott send 2 biohazard bags out if you need to return a faulty sensor. They should be placed in clinical waste. The cannula has been inside the body after all.

    Food Carb Counting Tech

For me this is the natural evolution of the Carbs and Cals book DSNs overturn recommend, or looking things up on the internet. It may not be perfect just yet, but it will get there, and hopefully the more people that use it the larger it's library of food gets and crucially, it's ability to...

    Food Carb Counting Tech

Wish I knew! Perhaps that's why it works best with fruit and veg?

    Food Carb Counting Tech

So it's not for you then, and that's fine. But for those that perhaps don't know how to carb count, or struggle to get the numbers right, or want to know what's on that plate at the restaurant then it may just work for them, and if it does, then great!

    Food Carb Counting Tech

It doesn't quite work like that unfortunately, however much I wish it did! It's more like it seeing you have a roll on your plate, and from the dimensions of the roll in the picture it works out it is approximately 100g in weight and that it knows 100g of roll typically contains 50g of carbs...

    Food Carb Counting Tech

Yes, not directly linked to food as this isn't a recipe or ideas for dinner, but thought some of you may find this useful. FoodVisor is an app that allows you to take a picture of what you're going to eat and it uses AI to determine what it is and how many carbs are in it (as well as other...

    Fitbit and librelink

You can't link your Fitbit up directly with LibreLink unfortunately - it just doesn't work that way. You need to invest in a 3rd party transmitter (the MiaoMiao is my preferred option) and then an app, depending on what kind of smart phone you have (Spike for iOS, xDrip or Glimp for Android) to...

Freestyle libre!! Just been allowed to order:)

This is now doable. Freestyle Libre with a MiaoMiao will enable you to display your glucose data on (the right model) FitBit and Apple Watch. I have mine linked up to a Garmin so I can see my data while I'm out running.

    Limiting Hypo treatment

I can do them all as well, with the exception of the non-flavoured/plain ones. Yuck! In order of preference (from the ones I can get locally) orange, blackcurrant, lemon+lime Haven't tried tropical or any of the other flavours as Tesco and Sainsbury's only have orange, blackcurrant, lemon lime...

    Limiting Hypo treatment

Fun size Mars Bars can be quite good too with about 11g of carbs in them. (Yes, I know that chocolate is not recommended as a hypo treatment, and the fat may delay the absorption, but they work great for me as a pre-hypo treatment when my Libre and xDrip are warning of an impending hypo when...

    Limiting Hypo treatment

Sometimes I have right problems with my hypos! Especially if its an early morning one. I have a bag of jelly babies by my bed, and if my xDrip alarm is going off and I've double checked the reading is correct I'll have maybe 3 jelly babies. 45 minutes later and nothing has happened (sometimes...

    Freestyle libre

I've been on the Libre for just over 3 months now, and it has changed everything. Like others have said, the data can be slightly out - I've found though that mostly it is pretty accurate to blood tests when levels are stable - but the real value is the trending data. I had been suffering...

    Limiting Hypo treatment

I did not know that - every day's a school day - but they work fine for me, and at 16g are just about the right size for hypo treatment. This article over at Live Strong suggests that sucrose or glucose, it doesn't matter. They work well as a hypo treatment...

Poll: Which diabetes course(s) have you attended?

I know, but my doctor is a bit funny about prescribing new kit when I have a perfectly functional and fairly new NovoPen 5. Plus, it was only £20 so not breaking the bank and saves the NHS a bit of cash.

    Limiting Hypo treatment

I must be the only person who actually like Dextrose tabs!! :) The orange are my favourite, followed closely by the blackcurrant. One thing I do find quite useful are fux size bags of Skittles. Easy to keep in the bag or pocket (especially when I'm running) and 16g of sugar in them which is...

Poll: Which diabetes course(s) have you attended?

I currently don't have a half unit pen, but won an eBay auction today for a brand new NovoPen Echo (I currently use the NovoPen 5). This will all help me hopefully get the carb absorption rate, insulin lasting time and insulin:carb ration set up right in xDrip to manage my T1. And if...

Poll: Which diabetes course(s) have you attended?

Has anyone been on the TIDE course (Type 1 Intensive Diabetes Education) offered by Trafford CCG? Its a 3-4 day course split over 3 weeks but there doesn't seem to be much information available on it that I can find. I'm booked on one at the end of Nov/start of Dec but I'm not really sure what...

    Switched To Tresiba

Thank you Hodders. Getting the balance just right is proving to be quite difficult. As you say Tresiba has a much longer activity length, but I also find it has a much more aggressive glucose lowering ability than Levemir. For example, if I head to bed with a high glucose level (say 9-10mmol)...
