    Heavy arms

I have had 'heavy arms' for several weeks - upper arms sore and unable to raise them above shoulder level. Also painful to reach behind and put on a coat and pull it up my arms. Do other people here suffer from this? This was about the same time I got the Covid vaccine but I hesitate to link...

Confusion over what can and can't eat, what is classed as high carbs and sugars

@mirdragon I was diagnosed Type 2 several years ago. I absolutely agree that the advice given is confusing. The thing I would say to you is testing is important My GP practice is common in concentrating on a three-monthly HbA1c blood test. My last result was quite high. To the medics this tells...

Low carb in hotels and on the road

I work as an IT engineer. In the past I have done big projects on customer sites, which involve driving to site, eating sandwiches or whatever you bring for lunch. In the evenings I am in hotels and in the past have fallen into the trap of eating chips etc. out of boredom. Hotel breakfasts also...

    Anyone tried this diabetes cookbook?

Not related really. I worked on the Novo Nordisk campus (actually for a sister company). The Danish diet is fantastic. For lunch a small piece of meat - eg. nice chicken or pork. Lots and lots of vegetables and maybe cous-cous or rice to accomapny it. I took a real liking to Koldskal -...

    Cost of shopping

I recently discovered Iceland. they do packs of cheese slices, two for 2 pounds if I'm not wrong. Perfect for breakfast and for snacking. Their steaks are fine, and very cheap. They also sell pork scratching in a big bag, which is my replacement for packs of crisps in the evening.

Low fat - might be working

I have been using a Freestyle Libre2 for just over a month. My blood glucose is constantly just under 10 mmol/l which is in the target zone. However I am very worried still about it. I have been trying to keep to a low carb diet. Today I have dipped to 7.5 which is going the right way! I did...

Freestyle tips - and feeling a bit better

Just updating my own thread. After 3 weeks on a low carb diet my glucose is averaging 10 mmol/l Clearly I have to keep going to get this down. Having a Freestyle Libre to help me monitor is fantastic, for me anyway. I spiked to 15 this morning after a bowl of Lizzis Granola. I always remember...

    Feeling poorly

Luvly, how are you feeling today?

    Confused with diet.

Regarding cardiovascular problems, my GP is wanting to put me on statins, at least twice now. My cholesterol has never been high. Their reasoning seems to be 'our calculator shows you are at risk of a heart attack or stroke within the next ten years so let's put you on statins'. I am choosing...

    Freestyle Libre 2

Sorry if I am making it look like I am some sort of expert. I am definitely not.

Freestyle tips - and feeling a bit better

Thanks MrsA2 I have started low carb in the last two weeks. I had the same feelings over Christmas, and I think they are caused by high glucose. That is why I now feel more confident as I have a meter.

Freestyle tips - and feeling a bit better

thanks MrsA2. My glucose was high yesterday so suspecting something else.. So today have eaten: Lizzis granola / cream / small amount of blueberries Several instant coffees 2 oatcakes with cheese Small bowl of home made prawn korma (packet sauce - I did not check for carbs. Should have) New...

Freestyle tips - and feeling a bit better

An uodate - my glucose has been high all morning, peaking at around 15. I have been feeling distinctly 'peaky' or as us Scots would say 'peely-wally'. Not ill, but just a bit off colour and unenthusiastic. I realise I felt a lot like this in the latter part of last year and in the early part of...

    Freestyle Libre 2

I saw somewhere that the sensor has a hole in the middle which should not be blocked. I guess you should cut a small hole in any plaster. Anyone? The circular ones I got from Amazon seem to have a breathable area in the middle.

    Freestyle Libre 2

Luvly, tell us how you get on. As I say I ordered some special round plasters from Amazon, which makes me more confident to have a shower.

    Freestyle trial question

[I just fitted my second sensor today and I agree about using a mirror. I stood at the bathroom sink and leant my hand on the wall.

    Freestyle trial question

I have a pretty high end Samsung phone. I believe the Libre sensor used NFC (near field communications). The same setup which is used if you pay on a contactless machine or use the London Transport readers. Your phone may not have NFC - I think you can check the models which work on the...

Freestyle tips - and feeling a bit better

Regarding crisps I have cut them out of my diet for the last two weeks. Replaced with cashew nuts... and pork scratchings. I am eating a lot of pork scratching - I guess these should be a special treat as they are very salty.

Freestyle tips - and feeling a bit better

I just had some Lizzis granola, yoghurt and half a banana earlier. Blood sugar has spiked to 15. I think I it is the banana - no more ripe bananas for me, sadly.
