    Question on lightheadedness

I get occasional light headedness when I get up quickly (and have actually fainted once), which I think is just my body adjusting to the lower blood sugar levels I have now. For background I was averaging morning blood sugar levels of around 15 when diagnosed in late March with an hb1ac of 106...

    A Munroist again :)

Glas Maol and Creag Leachach are quite nice especially the ridge along to Creag Leachach, except for the slog back up to the car-park. We did them in April 1992 when it was cold but dry with still some snow at higher levels. The Carn an Tuirc, Cairn of Claise, Tolmount and Tom Buidhe group we...

    A Munroist again :)

I've done the Cairnwell group once before (in April 1990 according to my notes!) and while the roadside stuff was a bit tedious I enjoyed the walk out the further Munro, especially as there were still patches of snow on the ground. We did get startled at one point when a rescue helicopter landed...

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

71kg exactly this morning, which is 11st 2.5lbs and a BMI of 23.1. That's down about 0,5kg from last week. I haven't really set myself a target yet but am thinking maybe when I get my BMI under 23 and weight under 11st I might look at sustaining that and perhaps trying to regain some of the...

    A Munroist again :)

As well as the 3 on the west of the road there are also quite a few easy Munro's on the other side of the road from Glenshee ski centre. Other easy ones that aren't too far away are the Drumochter ones off the A9 - they all start from fairly high so not massive amounts of climbing. I've done...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

6.3 this morning, which is reasonable for me so far.

    Sweeteners

I use Stevia, although sparingly and, as others have mentioned, wouldn't have xylitol in the house as I have dogs.

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

11st 3lbs this week - BMI of 23.2 That's close to 16kgs down since I was diagnosed in late March this year, and BMI down from 28.4.

    Help??

2000mg of Metformin seems a lot given an hb1ac of 50. I was diagnosed at 106 and was only put on 2 x 500mg (after an initial couple of weeks at 1 x 500mg) and I know someone else that was diagnosed at 80 and not medicated at all. I don't think feeling light headed is all that unusual as your...

    Another Newbie

Prior to the call I'd also been sent a report on my results (although I'd already seen them a couple of weeks back via the mydiabetesmyway portal) and it was quite interesting to see how those were scored. They measure a number of things: - Diabetes control: The hb1ac of 53 put me into their...

    Another Newbie

I had my follow-up call with the diabetes nurse yesterday, to discuss the results of my hb1ac earlier this month. She was very impressed that my hb1ac had dropped from 106 to 53 in 6-weeks - to the point she said she'd written WOW! in my notes (and was interested in what I'd done as she said...

    Confirmed Type 2.

When first diagnosed I also initially followed the advice from the diabetes nurse e.g. eat lots of fruit, switch to healthier carbs (brown rice, wholewheat pasta etc.) but fortunately realised after a couple of weeks (with the help of this forum) that it definitely wasn't helping (I had some of...

At what HBa1c level did your GP recommend Metformin?

It seems to vary widely from doctor to doctor. My initial hb1ac was 106 and I was (unsurprisingly) put on metformin straight away, however someone else I know (with a different practice & doctor) had an initial hb1ac of 80 and hasn't been prescribed any medication.

    atorvastatin & blood sugar

I started taking atorvastatin about 2 weeks ago and my average finger prick test since then has been 6.3. The average in the 2 weeks prior to starting was 6.0 so while it's up slightly its not by much (and may not be related to the statin). I was prescribed then at the same time I was diagnosed...

    BG Meter Recommendations

It was a finger prick test in excess of 20 that made me realise the advice I had from the diabetes nurse (i.e. each lots of fruit etc.) wasn't helpful and set me on the path to going low carb which has helped (and it's now rare I see anything over 8, and even then only when I've been out for a run).

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

    Down to 11st 9lbs/BMI 24.1 this morning - that's down from around 14st/BMI 28.5 when I was diagnosed as T2 about 3 months back.

Diabetes Nurse told me just now I need medication

I wasn't convinced that the first diabetes nurse I saw even understood what finger prick BG readings meant and she (and the doctor) ignored everything except the hb1ac results. Given the last time I spoke to both of them there was only a single data point (my initial hb1ac of 106) they were...

HBA1c - please tell us how quick you reversed your numbers

Not quite reversed mine yet however I've just had my first hb1ac test since my original 106 test in late March this year and that had reduced to 53 in about 6 weeks.

    Another Newbie

I don't really do measurements before and after meals however I had a look over my data. I started taking measurements after I was diagnosed about 2.5 months ago and the average over all those readings was 8.3, which is equivalent to an hb1ac of 51. Given my blood sugar in the couple of weeks...
