My hb1ac test from 06/06/2023 is up on the mydiabetesmyway site now and is 53. So while not as low as I'd hoped it's still half the 106 from my initial test on 22/03/2023. So decent progress but I expect I don't really have a case yet to get off the metformin - but hopefully do against the...

Struggling to keept my diabetes under control. Last HBa1C was 106

You need to make time to do the necessary things to sort out your health, even if that isn't easy - especially stuff like taking your medication. My last hb1ac (which was also my first) was also 106 and, while that was quite a surprise, it has definitely given me motivation to start looking...

Understanding my daily blood sugar levels

It might well come to that, although I'm already in the bad books with the doctor due to not taking the statins he prescribed.

I'm expecting to see them first on the my diabetes my way site so will check there over the next few days. The follow-up appointment with the diabetes nurse isn't until the end of the month.

I think it's 1-2 MMOL from your finger prick type tests, not from an hb1ac

Understanding my daily blood sugar levels

I was diagnosed about 6 weeks ago with hb1ac of 106 and put on metformin straight away. That was 1 x 500mg for the first 2 weeks, then moving onto 2 x 500mg after than (which is also what I'm on now). When I spoke to him last week the doc was talking about upping my dosage after my next blood...

    Exercise and raised bg

The only spikes I've had over 9 in the last month or so have been immediately after I've done a 5K run. They soon come back down though, so I just assume it's the body sorting out fueling.

At my appointment with the diabetes nurse this morning - which was a little confused as she thought I was in for an annual diabetes check and hadn't realised I was newly diagnosed - she was a lot more accepting of my own data. In fact she decided not to weigh me or check my blood pressure but...

If my test comes back as low as 41 there is not a chance I'll be accepting a higher metformin dose. At best I might agree to continue with the current 500mg x 2 that I'm on until the next blood test. If my result does come back reasonably low (and it might not as it's not much over 2 months...

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

Down to 11st 12lbs on my scales now, which is also the first time my BMI has been in the healthy, under-25 range in several decades.

From what I've read on here I think Metformin has some effect but not drastic - instead the diet changes are likely to be a bigger factor. So if/when I stop taking it I'm not expecting a big increase in numbers.

I usually take it around the same time as I eat, but not always. Doesn't seem to affect the blood sugar test results as far as I can tell, but it is supposed to help with the queasiness I think.

I was quite surprised to get prescribed a painkiller for nerve pain without any physical examination or any real discussion of my symptoms. I'd actually prefer the issue was nerve pain (as the alternative is probably arthritis in the hip) but as I'm managed get an x-ray scheduled for tomorrow...

Fingers crossed the results will be low enough that I'll be able to have a sensible discussion with the doctor or the diabetes nurse on what to do next! If the result is low then I'll definitely want to discuss coming off metformin (and definitely not increasing my dosage!). I'm not having...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

4.8 this morning, which is pretty good for me.

I'm still having more problems from my hip pain than I am from my diabetes so had an appointment with the doctor on Friday to discuss that, however all he really wanted to talk about what was diabetes. I've got a blood test this week (which is about 2.5 months since the first test when I had the...

    Spikes when exercising

Just back from running a slow 5K and my blood sugar tested at 9.2, which is a bit lower than the 10.5 it was after my last 5K run.

What do you use to record your numbers?

I use a spreadsheet to track various stuff blood sugar, blood pressure, weight and whether I've taken my pills. I use the myfitnesspal app to record what I eat (which also then tells me how many carbs I've had), and I use Garmin Connect to record exercise (which also feeds into the myfitnesspal...
