    Have you had viral gastroenteritis?

Hi all, thanks for the replies, yes I took dioralyte for several days near the start of it all, but I could only actually get to the chemist for it 5 days after it started because I was so unwell - and, I was so ill, that I totally forgot I have a doctor living downstairs from me, so I...

Injecting in my car - funny

I had a similar experience when first diagnosed - injecting in a loo in a pub - this girl was banging aggressively on the door telling me to hurry up so I said I'd be out soon but it was going to take a minute because I was just injecting insulin. She went totally nuts, calling me all kinds of...

    Have you had viral gastroenteritis?

Hello, In the last week of August I got a severe dose of viral gastroenteritis. I got so sick that I couldn't even face calling an ambulance and handling all the people and the speaking and the stuff and the hospital and the people and the talking...... all I wanted to do was lie there between...

partner hasn't much control of diabetes

He might need the wake-up call of getting very sick before he takes a hold of things. He has to get his head around it, but I promise you, it's a hard thing for some of us to do. Some of the diabetics here find it like water off a duck's back, but I don't and I personally know others who don't...

    1st setback

Whilst you have an excellent HbA1c, it is in fact the ups and downs that cause as much damage as long-term high levels. I've had that confirmed by my opthalmologist - an old friend who was type 1 long before me told me that many years ago, and when I was diagnosed, I wanted to know. An Hba1c...

    Pen Trouble, Help!

Right, I've tested for you. 1/2 unit comes out at one solitary drop. If your pen's giving out absolutely nothing, and you've already done the 2 unit air-shot to make sure there's no air bubbles trapped in the chamber, then yes, the pen's faulty. I mention the air-shot because my boss has had it...

    Pen Trouble, Help!

It doesn't matter what it looks like, half a unit of novorapid works exactly like half a unit of novorapid. I use the same thing. Half a unit here or there counts if you're sensitive to it. There are countless reasons why your one-time correction trial of half a unit didn't work. Eg your sugars...

wow what was that all about!

You do NOT need to test 2 times a day aaaarrrrrgggghhhh you are doing it right. Don't stop doing what you're doing. And as for the impending hypo/marathon eating experience, well I'm 3yrs into it and it still happens to me sometimes, it happened just 2wks ago. I had 90g of carbs altogether and...

    Type1's and low carb

I don't think you're going to find a large audience of low-carbing Type 1s to answer your queries but you might get somewhere using the search function to find previous posts on the subject.

    Insulin productivity

Sorry to be super-super-clear about the c-peptide - Type 2s can also have low readings so you can't say there's a specific level that says you're Type 1 or 2 etc - this is why you have to have other tests too.

    Insulin productivity

I think I came out with 847 c-peptide and the hospital determined I am indeed a Type 1 (drat) but whilst no-one can ever prove it, it's likely I'm a LADA. Well, it's blindingly obvious to me, in hindsight. LADA is, in the WHO listings, simply a type of Type 1 - there's no real need to call it...

    Anyone had these symptoms?

I've never heard of 2, but I have had a couple of idiots helpfully 'informing' me, straight to my face, that I'm not a "severe" diabetic. I really don't understand how much more severe than type 1 it goes - is there a type 0? And I seem to have somehow discovered that half the world has either a...

    Type1's can you remember???

For a couple of years as a teenager I used to wake up at 4am on the dot and have to drink a whole pint of cold orange juice - it was a compulsion. You couldn't wake me up any other time for love nor money but there I would be, at the fridge, 4am, desperate for juice, and I would only be...

    Any tips

Both me and my friend tried the 4mms and actually found them much more painful and likely to bruise than the 6mms, so we both stopped using them. Also the breathing out technique works for me when using my tummy, and sometimes a large patch of skin on the right side of my tummy just becomes...

    moving to uk

I'm British but when I go abroad I need a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to ensure I get the same care abroad as I'm entitled to receive at home. You should contact your government offices and find out what you're supposed to do. If you're entitled to NHS treatment, then you'll get free...

    Pizza

And please note when you go to Italy and have actual, real pizza, it's made with a much thinner base and contains probably only about half the carbs you're expecting. As I recently discovered. Twice........! Just to be sure.

DVLA considering revoking licences of insulin users

Thanks for the replies - looks like it's just watching and waiting then. It also seems to have changed from the consultation period - so maybe the original article was closer to the truth.... yikes. It's not like I even still have a car as it's pointless in London but I still want the option to...

DVLA considering revoking licences of insulin users

Hi Phoenix, thanks for the link, I ended up scouting around and found out more but the article published on this website just says "hypo". Everything else talks about "disabling hypos", which are very specific things. Looks like the DUK article fell a bit short, unless things have changed...
