Hi Paltry, sounds like your a veggie? If so there are many very low carb protein foods for vegetarians. Quorn is it's many guises Asda and Tesco do their own brand stuff If you want to treat yourself you can but you should still count the carbs and try and cut down on other meals that day. H

    HBA1C test results!!

That's good news Gill, you should be very pleased with that reduction in BG. You still need to get it down a bit more so keep at it, you will find that it will keep coming down if you stick to your diet, you will then reach a point where it will level out and not drop much more. H

    6.8 Prediabetic??

HbA1c is a recognised diagnostic test for T2 diabetes, a Glucose Tolerance test can also be used to diagnose or a combination of the two. National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines say that 7.0% is the point at which diabetes is diagnosed, the Joint British Societies...

    6.8 Prediabetic??

In my book 6.8 is diabetic. Anything over 6.5 is how latest medical thinking classifies diabetic. Mind you 6.8 is not very bad, a T2 should be able to manage to get that down by diet and excercise quite easily. H

Do I have good control or not??

I would agree with Jilly, from the figures you quote I would call that good control. Remember we all vary, and we are diabetic, so you cannot always expect perfect results, we can only do the very best we can. It would not make sense (to me) to strive for the unatainable at the expense of a...

New product - Diabetes.co.uk Alert ID

Someone I know in A&E at a hospital tells me that the thing they look for is something round the neck, but I don't think they could miss that wrist band, even if it's under a coat sleeve? Hmmmm maybe! H

    New and worried

Welcome here David, You have the right attitude and you will soon have things under tight control, I deduce this from your post and the positive attitude it conveys. Diet is very important, watch the carbohydrates, try not to eat to many at any one meal. Exercise is imortant to, I have found...

    Carbs!!

Check that the carbs content is for dry weight, sometimes it is shown for a cooked weight and they are very different. H

    got my hba1c

7.1 is either good, bad or indifferent depending upon where you look! Modern medical thinking is that a 6.5 or above result needs treatment, either by diet and excercise or medication. You need to see your Doctor and discuss it with him/her. I would think another Hba1c is possible and maybe a...

    Can anyone advise me..Metformin

I have been on Metformin for a month, I take it after my lunch and have had no side effects at all. My BG has dropped by about .7 mmol / ltr on average. We are all different of course, and it's a shame you can't get on with it, you need to see your Doctor and see what else might be on offer. H

    Why I need this site.

(e-mail address removed) Is the Diabetic Administrator, there is a Young Persons support group with regular meetings and outings. An email will probably get you in touch? We have all been there (T2s) don't get to worried, it's early days for you, with lots of learning to do. I was much the same as you 8-9 years ago and now take medication and watch my diet, my BG is OK at 5.2 but it was 13. It takes time to come down, some months, start on a diet, a) to lose some...

Lloyds Chemist and others will do a Blood Glucose test for you free of charge. Just do one of your own at the same time and compare,+ or - 10% seems to be the norm. 6 mmol is OK, lots of people would be more than happy with that, me included! H

    Free Gym ?

Not in my Council area we don't, they privatised the council owned gym about 2 years back and subscriptions trebled for me as a pensioner. The fact is the new owners don't want us oldies so we are priced out of it. £360 a year is a lot for of peak use. H

    soya flour

The soy flour I buy fromTesco says 16g of carb per 100g so maybe it varies? I use it for making low carb bread and a couple of slices of the bread doesn't affect me to much (T2). There are several recipes around for low carb bread, do a search and you might find the one I posted. I also use...
