    Metformin, when to take

Im on normal Metformin, 2 500mg tablets 3 times a day.

    Bread

I agree with GraceK on this, I think this new advice is not realistic. Medical advice on the Diabetes.co.uk says you should look to limit it to a max spike of 8.5 and be back to well below this after 2 hrs after a meal, then someone comes on here and says 'No, this research says 7.8' and now its...

    Metformin, when to take

When do you take it for the best results, as you start a meal or 20 mins or so before you eat?

    Bread

Ive tested after 1hr and after 2hrs, so can see that its dropping from the 1hr reading, so havent tested again after that.

    Bread

Well if I read that right, 7.8 after 2 hrs is the recommended target, then Im within that by a mile.

    Bread

Just tried white bread, it also doesnt effect me, 1hr after eating Im 7.2 and after 2 hrs Im 5.6.

    Bread

Whats with everyone saying 'I never go above 7'? I thought the advised limit was 9 and for safety 8.5, now everyone is saying 7. :***: I would go over 7 if I ate a strawberry

    Bread

Hi Daibell, pasta and rice are the 2 worst things for me, normal or wholemeal/brown, BG's go really high and stay there. Sugar itself doesnt have much effect in tea/coffee/cereal but if I have jam or marmalade, it goes high.

    Bread

The 8.5 is the limit I set for the highest spike after a meal, the highest my BG levels go to. After 2 hrs Im down to around 6, peak spike is around 7.8 after toast, with no meds.

    Bread

I had lots of fun with the GI food sheet my diabetes clinic gave me, most of the things that were supposed to be good to eat, spiked my BG levels, things like rice and pasta especially bad. Potato and bread dont have much effect.

    Bread

Why is it generally seen as being bad for diabetics? I personally find it has very little effect on by BG levels, I can eat 4 slices of toasted wholemeal bread and dont need to take any medication to keep by BG below 8.5

    Lancet challenges!!

I find that using the inside of my little finger is best. Ive got a codefree and the lancet is a bit brutal, so I use the old one from my Accu Chek. You dont need much blood with the codefree, the old Accu Chek I had needed you to tap an artery

Wholemeal (Brown) bread or Wholegrain bread?

Not everyone is the same, I eat wholemeal bread, and it has no effect on my BG at all.

    Idiot needs help!

Ah right, I missed the difference in mmol and mmol/l, the nurse said 41 was good so I wasnt worried but got confused by the 2 converters on the website, put 41 into one and it gave me a mmol/l reading that made me spit my coffee everywhere  I knew it shouldnt be high, Ive shed 7 stone in 6...

    Idiot needs help!

I had my review today, was given the results of my blood test in the new measurement and Im confused  It says my average is 41 and its measure in mmol, but isnt that the same as my bg meter, and Im supposed to keep it below 9! Im confused and my head hurts! :***:

    WORK PROGRAMME & DiABETICS

All depends on who your work programme provider is, Im with Ingeus and they arent bad but like I say, they want to get paid at teh end of the day, so they will push all kinds your way.

    WORK PROGRAMME & DiABETICS

Its the usual jobcentre stuff, you will be pressured to apply for everything going as they dont give a stuff about your health/wellbeing, they just want you off benefits asap. Work programme are slightly different, they will push you to apply for everything going as they want you back at work...

    Glucose Meter
