    Coming off metformin?

Thanks all. I'm just terrified, feel back to square one i.e. scared to eat!! Typically I'm out of strips, I'll be better tomorrow when I've got some more and I feel more in control.

What do you eat at Nando's?

Chicken!! Yup I love a nandos because the chicken is just about carb free. I also love the fact they publish the nutrition statistics so you can see the carb content of the sides. I treat myself to half a mashed potato sometimes (26g of carbs per full portion) !

    Coming off metformin?

Thanks for the well done! Dr was lovely (first time I'd seen this gp) and prescribed me strips so I could feel in control (nurse had just said don't test you don't need to). Hopefully I can keep it up, costing me a fortune though, this time last year I was a size 22, now I'm a 14, have to keep...

    Coming off metformin?

Diagnosed last May with fasting blood sugar of 17 and an hba1c of over 100. I was 16 stone. Low carbed since then, last hba1c was 36 (5.4 in old money) back in October. At that point I'd lost 4 stone. Went to drs yesterday with stomach probs (IBS exacerbated by 1500 mg metformin). He told...

    feeling quite discouraged

Thanks all After my frustrations this afternoon I feel I've had a small victory ... I roasted a chicken today and for tea have had roast chicken, roasted Mediterranean veg (onion, pepper, courgette) and some broccoli ... and (gasp) 2 roast potatoes ... 2hours later ... 7.5!!!! I'm so happy!!

    feeling quite discouraged

Thanks ... I'm on 1000 Metformin ... which I think is what makes me discouraged ... it was 500 for two weeks then upped to 1000. I've seen so many people quoting 4s and 5s on diet in a couple of weeks that I just felt I must be doing something wrong.

    feeling quite discouraged

I've really been trying with the low carb thing ... and its 5 and a half weeks since I was diagnosed with a fasting level of 17. I' managed to bring in under 10 in a week and now I'm hitting 7s pre evening meal ... 3 times under 7 ... tonight the lowest ever at 6.7 ... but its always about 8 -...

anything I can take to work for lunch besides salad?

I'm struggling with it day in day out ... one day just the thought made me feel sick. I can't eat cheese so I'm eating lettuce, cucumber and the odd spring onion with either chicken or fish and a dollop of mayo .. It's been difficult for 4 weeks, the thought of it being lunch forever is so...

hoping you can tell me I'm on the right lines ...

you were right Grazer, managed 8.7 on Sunday, and today 7.7 I realise from looking at other people's posts they seem to have had much quicker more dramatic reductions, but I'm happy that things are moving in the right direction

advice about going on holiday ...

Thanks, Unfortunately I can't eat cheese (whole other dietary issue!), and even most of the salads seem to be '3 cheese' so I'm scrabbling around looking for options! breakfast should be fine so hopefully that will get me through the day. Unfortunately my partner is vegetarian so that limits...

advice about going on holiday ...

... I'm heading to Disneyland Paris in a couple of weeks, booked before I was diagnosed. We're in effect trapped at Disneyland, don't have a car. Looking at the food menus I'm wondering what I can eat!! Am I right to assume that as I'll be walking around a great deal that the extra exercise...

hoping you can tell me I'm on the right lines ...

thanks Viv, head MUCH better today :) Don't drink tea or coffee (can't really stomach any hot drinks at all) but took large bottle of water with me today and managed that. Don't reckon I've hit 2 litres yet but there is still time. Blood sugar today was under 10 for the first time - 9.3 I...

hoping you can tell me I'm on the right lines ...

thanks, Testing two hours after eating is hard for me during the day as I'm a teacher ... I can't really halt the class and run out to test but I'll give that a go at the weekend. I only tested at the same time today as I wanted some kind of comparator from Monday. I'll try after my evening...

how long does it take for metformin to start working?

To be honest I was told nothing other than here's the tablets, I'll refer you to education. Can't refer you to the dietician as you've moved house, find another doctor. Thanks for the information ... my parents are type 2 (no surprises there) and they checked my sugar yesterday at 5pm ... it...

how long does it take for metformin to start working?

I only started taking it on Friday night but I'd convinced myself I felt much better. Today I've eaten exactly the same things as I did yesterday up till now (i.e. same breakfast and lunch) but all the symptoms that sent me to the doctor have come back this afternoon ... dizziness, blurry...

    Hi

Thanks for the welcome and the advice. My Dr really didn't go into details, but my mum, dad and brother are all T2 diabetic so it wasn't a huge surprise - in fact I went to the Dr saying I thought I was diabetic so at least it wasn't a shock. In fact, I cried my eyes out last year when my...
