Back on insulin and trying to not give up

The struggle is real, @norab1. I had a real good run for about three months at the beginning of the year, following a low-carb diet, losing weight and coming off meds. Last three months have been one hell of a roller coaster in terms of my carb addiction and a lot of the substantial progress I...

    First CGM

Once you get used to using CGM and notice interesting patterns, you can run mini experiments.I did x and y happened. Now, let's keep everything the same but adjust x by z and see what happens. For example, you could adjust the amount of carbs in a meal or a duration of exercise to see how it...

    First CGM

Hi @timbo_dolman, to maximise the insight generated, I'd be ready to track your nutrition (timing, size, and macronutrient ratio of your meals), exercise, sleep, stress levels and any medication you might be taking. Overlaying this on top of your CGM blood glucose curve will give you a detailed...

    Vitamin d usage

Hi @Darion, I'm T2, so my experience might not directly translate to T1, but... I have done both food tracking and vitamin D supplementation. Out of the two, food tracking has probably had the most impact on my BG levels. As soon as I became aware of what I was eating, I started making better...

    minimum working temperature

In the UK diabetes can be classed as an unseen disability and you could potentially ask for a reasonable adjustment to your working conditions. This probably will assume that you have declared your health condition to your employer and require agreement with your employer on what reasonable...

    Dexcom 1 +

Hi @Iain Byrne , welcome to the forums! I don't have experience with using Dexcom ONE+ as a Type 1, but recently did a comparison of Libre 2, Libre 2+ and Dexcom ONE+ alongside each other as Type 2. Check out my thread here...

    Fasting

@Andy928 - I need a clear structure or I don't stick to it. As I said everyone needs to find their own approach. :) One of the basic starting principles would be to leave at least 4-5 hours between your meals and remove any snacking in-between (that's your fasting) and see where you go from...

    A1c

I use NHS App to access my GP records and this has separate sections for my test results. Once these have been loaded I can see the exact metrics and visual representation of my results against target ranges. It also allows me to see full history of specific tests over time. See attached...

    Fasting

Like with diets. fasting approach will be individual to you. You need to test and see what works for you. I generally do18:6 intermittent fasting where I eat my food between 12:30 and 18:30. Two meals, with lunch being the largest meal of the day. Sometimes I do one meal a day giving me a 24h...

Erectile Dysfunction overnight with type 2

I had a period a couple of years ago where I struggled with some ED symptoms and got prescribed Sildenafil/Viagra to help me, but to be honest it was not much help as while the medication helps with blood flow to your organs, it does not do much for the psychological side. What I realised very...

    A1c

I find that my results ony appear online when reviewed and posted by the GP surgery. Sometimes, it could be a day after the test, other times only after I had my review appointment.

Erectile Dysfunction overnight with type 2

@meddiabetic, welcome to the forum. As it has already been mentioned, ED can have different underlying causes, both physiological as well as psychological, and you need to work with your medical team to work out the most likely cause. My understanding is that diabetic neuropathy is something...

    Dexcom ONE+ vs Libre 2 & Libre 2+

I don't think it would affect sensor in any way as long as you don't wrap it too tight causing a compression low. Over the years I've used all sorts of coverings with my Libre sensors, sticky plasters, sports tape, etc. all with no problems. The ONE+ data sheet I've seen states that ONE+ is not...

    Dexcom ONE+ vs Libre 2 & Libre 2+

I found I managed just fine with 10 days of daily showers with no additional cover... the adhesive on my sensor was really good without using the additional patch. The sensor is relatively small and stays out of the way, but I imagine you could use some cling film over it for protection if you...

    Dexcom ONE+ vs Libre 2 & Libre 2+

ONE+ is all in one sensor and works with your mobile phone. Do check app compatibility though especially if you are using Android (https://www.dexcom.com/en-gb/compatibility/d1g7). The box is almost half the size of Libre 2 and comes with sensor inside applicator, an additional adhesive patch...

I can't seem to understand this

The way I think about this is that you can eat whatever allows you to achieve your goals and gives you a sustainable path forward. For me, just looking at grain products spikes my blood glucose. But then again I have been a hardcore T2 diabetic for over 15 years maxing out on all oral medication...

    Best/worst drinks?

If it is about limiting impact on your blood glucose levels, I would explore fasting liquids like water, sparkling water, coffee, tea, infusions, bone broth, etc. If you don't enjoy your tea/coffee as is, instead of milk I would add a tablespoon of double cream (it is mostly fat and would have a...

    Best/worst drinks?

You'd need to specify what you are optimising for, i.e., best for what? It will be very different if you are just trying to quench your thirst vs trying to recover from a hypo.

    ‘Stop Eating After 7pm’ Challenge

Apologies, I've got to take a small break from this thread. Too many commitments right now and am consistently failing to get on top of this one. .:) Will rejoin the conversation once I get some of the other things under control.

    Dexcom ONE+ vs Libre 2 & Libre 2+

I should have mentioned that I wore all the sensors on the same arm while testing. I timed it so that I got end of my Libre 2 and beginning of Libre 2+ roughly in the middle of 10 days of ONE+.
