What are you doing now and humorous banter.

I'm having a difficult time just now -husband has a mystery illness, probably an auto-immune thing, he's very weak and tired. We spent eight hours in hospital yesterday for tests. I must thank @Derbyshire Boy for making me laugh so much the other day though!

    Yes please.

Years ago my kids boycotted Woolworths for whole summer because they had 'Back To School' banners in the shop on the first day of the school holidays.

What music are you listening to?

I'm listening to The Young'Uns. I went to the Battle Proms last weekend (music, Red Devils parachutists, a spitfire during Elgar's Nimrod, cannons, fireworks - you name it!!!) Then found out there was a folk festival the next day with The Young 'Uns playing. That led me to check if they had...

    Diabetic Review with Doctor

The salad looked unappetising - a few limp leaves, chicken and potato. The quarter sandwich was by far the better choice from my point of view. I had a salad when I got home.

    Diabetic Review with Doctor

I went to a M&S cafe the other day. There was nothing suitable for me. I mentioned this to the staff and was told there was a chicken salad. Oh great, I thought - then noticed it had quite a lot of potato in it. I ended up with a little of my husband's sandwich. (No Pret a Manger in the...

Another One Of Those Conversations With GP

I have noted the difference in my knees since going back to butter and lard. The loss of weight (only 2-3 kg) on lchf will no doubt have helped too. I was beginning to think I needed knee surgery, but now they are much improved.

    Packaging

My Nexus ones take about £12 of pound coins (useful during the pound coin changeover), also useful for collecting used hearing aid batteries before tipping them into the hospital battery recycling bin.

    Socks

I look for Pringle or Elle socks at TKMaxx. Some have a tight top but some are very soft and loose, with the benefit of no toe seam to rub. They are also colourful and fun. There are special socks for diabetics, but they do have a toe seam.

    Rapeseed oil

I use it. Apparently it is high in monounsaturated fat and has a high smoke point. One thing I have noticed since switching from rapeseed oil is that the cooker is much easier to clean - none of that horrible sticky residue. I don't know what that says about vegetable/seed oil health 'benefits'.

    The SCREAM thread

Thanks. I'm screaming because I've missed the trip to Slimbridge and Ham Walls. It could be worse though, I could have been taken ill on holiday and that would have been dreadful. I'm still having to stay in bed, though my husband is up and about but by no means well.

    The SCREAM thread

Husband and I were going on a weekend birding trip on Friday, but we've had to cancel as we've both got flu. And yes, we had the flu jab. I've still got a temperature of 38.4, for the third day running. My eyes have gone funny so I can't read. We take it in turns to 'crawl' to the kitchen to...

    Appalling!!

All the specialist ones I've seen have a ridged toe seam. I've found Pringle and Elle ladies socks in TK Max that have a nice loose top and no toe seam. I use them for comfort and not because I need them.

    Low Carb High Fat?

"Remember these diets are ranked by experts not anonymous forum members who use broscience and quote shoddy industry funded studies designed to spread disinformation and sell a product (butter, bacon, " But it is just the same kind of shoddy industry funded studies that sell margarines and...

    VERY CONFUSED

The fast heart beat may simply be the reaction to being at the gp. In other words 'white coat syndrome. Try counting the beats yourself when you are at home and relaxed.

    Some help, please

Your meter could be reading a bit high. I have two meters, one reads about 1.5 points higher than the other. I use the one with the lower readings as it tallies with my Hba1c. The other one is just kept as a backup but I probably won't replace the strips when they expire.

Dare I mention the word carb??????

I have been T2 for 15+ years, and only learned about lchf about 18 months ago. Until then my rule was keep the portion size down, and actually I didn't do too badly. My diet is much better now though, my glucose levels are much lower (hba1c 36) and I have more energy. However I still allow...
