Anyone use the one touch ultra or GlucoRxNexus meter?

I was given a GlucoRx Nexus by the practise nurse, though I have to buy my own strips. I do like it and although I also have the more economical Tee2 I tend to stick with the Nexus - less fiddly to use. The Tee2 pricker takes the same lancets though, so will be a useful stand-by.

    Cranberry sauce

Yes, it's high in sugar, but I have just a small portion (a teaspoonful). I feel I have given up enough and don't worry about condiments. I make my own mint jelly and don't cut down the sugar. Again, I have just a small teaspoonful.

    How were you told?

I went to A and E with palpitations, breathlessness, generally feeling 'orrible. I'd been to the gp numerous times. I did notice the problem was worse after meals, but didn't think it would be relevant. They put me on a heart monitor, took a blood sample, including a finger prick test. 'How...

Dr Jason Mercola's book 'Fat for Fuel'

Sorry, you are quite right - it's Dr Joseph Mercola. I've looked on YouTube but haven't had time to sit and watch as yet.

Dr Jason Mercola's book 'Fat for Fuel' is on Kindle daily deal for £2.19 today. Has anyone read it or heard of it?

    The SCREAM thread

I heard on the news this morning that we will soon be asked about our sexuality by the gp, hospital etc. My inclination is to refuse to give an answer. I was asked the same question on a form asking my opinion on local libraries. My answer was unrepeatable on this genteel forum.

Footwear - what do you prefer?

Eccos were always my favourites until I discovered Padders. Wide fitting, with shaped insoles. Insoles are removable for orthotics. I wear classic lace-ups or velcros. I've come to the conclusion that sandals are not for me. I'm also very fussy about socks - no toe seam. Pringle or Elle (from TK...

    Irritable legs at night

I find a couple of paracetamol helpful, also moving my legs to a cooler part of the bed. I've had it for years, comes and goes. I asked the nurse about it some time ago - and she'd never heard of it. I thought she would certainly know about it if she experienced it.

    Flu Shot

Had mine at the surgery last Saturday, felt fine - not even a sore arm. Then when I called in the local pharmacy today they asked me if I wanted one there and then.

You're lucky you get Classic FM. The background 'music' (noise) in our surgery is the most awful tinkly, repetitive piano that just goes on and on and on. I'm sure it pushed my blood pressure up.

For those worried about cholesterol levels..

A 101 year old gentleman I know was put on statins a couple of years ago. He was also on several different medications for high blood pressure, pain etc etc.... To cut a long story short, after collapsing he was eventually taken off the lot ...... and felt much better.

    eye problems

Are they quite bright, shimmering zigzag lights? If so they could be a kind of migraine without the headache.

    Chest palpitations with short blackout

I had a similar problem about 15 years ago - ended up in A and E where they diagnosed diabetes. They said it had nothing to do with diabetes, but it's odd that the symptoms improved once I got the sugar under control. I still have occasional palpitations, missed beats and flutters, but have been...

    A Trip Out Today!

I had a cream tea yesterday. Two large scones provided (I brought one back home along with the small jar of jam.) I tested when I got home ......... 9.3 yikes!! I had scrambled egg for tea, and tested two hours later ..... 3.9!!! Had some fruit and tested half an hour later ...3.3!! All very...

Have you tried turning the back light down? Mine sometimes seems too light if in a dark area.

    Book Corner.

I love my Kindle, and have recently 'bought' several Patricia Wentworth free books. I've just finished 'Will o' the Wisp'. (sadly no longer free). It's set in 1920's upper middle class England, a mystery, and a love story. I thought at first it was thin and inconsequential, but I kept being...

    Diane Abbott T2

I've been away and may have missed a post mentioning this, but I wonder if she is taking statins? Even after only a few tablets, memory can be affected very badly. Someone I knew lost her car and quite simply couldn't function within a week of starting them. She stopped taking them and recovered...
