    Insulin leakage

Do you often do larger injections in your legs? I have this happen occasionally if I inject too much in a place that is more muscular than other parts or if I happen to inadvertently be flex or in a weird leg position. I think it is because the length of the needle might not be appropriate for...

anyone else read this on the BBC - very brave and sobering

That was very unsettling for me as I am just coming out of a long burn out period. Thankfully I do not have any complications, but to risk never seeing my loved ones faces again is enough to bring me to tears and motivate me to stay on track Thank you for posting

Type 1 gaining weight with healthy lifestyle

Hey Steph, you might just need to give your metabolism a bit of a kick. Try adding in some weight lifting, it is actually great for building lean muscle and rebooting your metabolism. However, if you do not do a lot of weight training, watch out for delayed hypos! I have had some that have...

    Levimeir.. Quick question

My larger one is in the morning because I have a fairly stressfull day-to-day job. My night one is less as most of my hypos are in the middle of the night !

    Levemir question

Stick with it! It is definitely a trial and error process at first! If you woke up high, then I think your bedtime dose needs to be adjusted instead of the mid-day dose? Increasing the mid-day dose might just lead to more lows in the evening.

"Best" things doctors have said to you

When I was first diagnosed (age 20), conversation with the nurse: Nurse: How much insulin do you take? Me: None Nurse: Well, how do you manage your diabetes? Me: What diabetes? Nurse: *Looking horrified at how they broke the news to me** "I'll be right back" and slowly backs out of my room....

    Losing your rag.

Maxing the Dexcom sensor - what's the limit?

I havent used Dexcom, but if it is like other sensors, having it in for too long can cause inflammation and possible infection around the site. Also, some of the materials are not meant to be in the body for too long and can cause some serious irritation

    Levemir question

Levemir reduces the amount of lows because in its action profile is flat (rather than having a peak and decline line lantus does) This means that it gives you consistent background basil insulin. If you are dropping if you go a long time without eating, it might mean that you just have too much...

    craving sweet food

I definitely have a sweet tooth! I especially miss sweets after dinner. I find a couple of squares of really dark chocolate, or a mini-bag of kettlecorn popcorn (100 cal bags) are a perfect sweet snack for under 15g of carbs. I found that the more I denied my cravings, the more I would...

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

Just got my A1C done for the first time in a year. I was avoiding it because I knew my control was bad... but I am back at it and not hiding from it anymore..... November 12th = A1C 10.0%

    Levemir question

You could also add in an extra snack in the AM if needed for the window where your night dose might be overlapping with your AM dose

    Levemir question

Ive been on Levemir for years and usually a 1-2 hour delay doesn't effect me if I am doing 1 dose daily. But I did find that my levemir didnt last the full 24 hours (it was about 20-21 hours) so I switch to two smaller doses 12 hours apart. Splitting the dose gave me more flexibility because...

    New Relationships

He does know I have diabetes but I don't tell him much more than that. I was married to a very unsupportive non-diabetic (I was diagnosed 4 years into the relationship), and his reactions to my diagnosis has made me very hesitant to talk much about diabetes. Do your current partners...

    New Relationships

Hey All, I have recently just started dating again and I am dating an amazing guy but he doesn't know anything about diabetes. We haven't been dating long and when I am struggling with controlling my levels, I don't want to put that on him because I don't want him to think that I am sick or...

    It's happened: Burnout

Hey Everyone, I am new to this site but was brought here because of some serious burnout! I find that when I am having trouble with control, I don't speak up and ask for help from the people around me. I am the only one in my family with diabetes and I feel that people wont understand the...
