Thanks @EllsKBells I've not had a C-Petide test. Is that worth doing whist on Insulin...I was told it should be done before you start on Insulin therapy

Hi, First Clinic Results back: HbA1c 38mmol/mol, total cholesterol 3.2mmol/L, TSH 1.52 mU/L, creatinine 85umol/L, feet nice and pink...Carb to insulin 25g to 1 ish...Bit on the fat side and High Blood pressure. That concerned the consultant (195/90) so prescribed Amlodipine...nobody's perfect...

A colleague at work revealing my diabetes

Cakes, biscuits and Samosas are a massive part of work culture where I am. I get similar comments like this from time to time (mostly tongue in cheek) everyone knows I'm diabetic, not everyone understands I can eat what I like. I don't eat them not because I'm diabetic but because I don't want...

Question about Hypos and diet change

Hi, Dietician recommended an adjustment to my diet to try and drop some weight (to lose weight you will be hungry she said). So I changed my Breakfast from a Cooked one to Shredded Wheat....Same carbs so same insulin dose.... 2 Units of Rapid... 3 Hrs later....Full on Hypo.....What have I been...

Is it possible that my new Rapid Insulin Pen is dodgy ?

Well today has been a big success...Up 6.9, before Lunch 5.7, before Eve Meal 5.8 and just now 7.2....and more importantly no hypos...Sugars through night were in the 6 range. I think I have found my new dosage levels (for now). Exhausted.....and l'm not sure why the last 4 days have been weird...

Thanks for all the advice....greatly appreciated Well, I reduced my basal dose by 2 units to 16 units and pre-meal to 2 units from 3 units and I'm writing this having just treated a hypo (2 Hrs after Dinner). BS now 4.1 and shakes have stopped. Think this will be a long night :-(

Is it possible that my new Rapid Insulin Pen is dodgy ?

How did you know. ?...yes...I started a new Lantus pen a few days ago. I thought as it's long acting it will have minimum effect during the day...I do basal dose at 9.00pm ?

Just diagnosed type 1 at 41!!

Welcome @Nico76 your story is scarily similar to mine except I broke the meter at over 33.3 :-( and the consultant bypassed metformin....You are in the right place for advice and support. I was diagnosed last year (27th October, that date sticks in my head for some reason) and I know I have put...

Is it possible that my new Rapid Insulin Pen is dodgy ?

Hi, For the last 5 Months or so I've had good control of BS. At 4.00pm when I drive home I test and it's always been in the 6-7 mmol/l range...The last 3 days I was surprised that my 4pm reading was below 5 (4.8, 4.6, 4.8) which for me is 3 hours after meal. The other 5 readings during the day...

Hello and could do with some advice please

Hi Rach85.....It's sound advice to give carbs if below 7mmol/l before bed as nighttime hypos in the young can be serious. Insulin dose is personal. What works for me will not be appropriate for your daughter. Honeymoon is a blessing and a curse, it can be a bit erratic as you say. Hypos after...

    Recently Diagnosed

Hi Paige and welcome. It's a very steep learning curve with Type 1 but you are in the right place to learn. The guys here on this forum are amazing, and genuinely want to help. I would recommend having an appointment with your local NHS dietician. For me, She gave me excellent advice about what...

How do you get on with Lantus?

It's just something I really don't want to experience and having read up on Lantus. It does suggest if you inject all Basal at night Insulin blood concentration does tend to max in the early hours of the morning. I will take your advice and discuss with my DSN first. Thanks

How do you get on with Lantus?

Just injected 9 units of Lantus...BG now 8.9....not very good...2 hours after food though...will give another shot of 9 units in the morning and give it 2 days to see if things improve...?
