HI,
I'm 21 and have been pumping for about 6 years now and I would be more than happy to get in touch. One thing for sure is that I don't see myself going back to those injections, the pump is a GREAT thing!
All the best,
Harry
Hi,
I think this is something that is different for everybody. I cycle around 30-40 mile smost days and I need to put the basal rate down to 20% an hour before until the end of the ride. I also, weirdly need to take a bolus of 2U straight after the run to not go up too high. Weird as most...
A part from the decreased hypo awareness and its consequences I have heard that frequent hypo's have effect on the brain. The brain lacking glucose can effect memory and stuff like that.
Hi,
I have been a type 1 for about 6 years now, I consider myself pretty controlled (HbAc1 < 7 all the time). I also consider myself quite sporty and I know the drill, do sport = eat sugar depending on intensity and duration. I've managed to find a pretty good balance over the years except that...
When whenever you're a bit in a mood, friends/family immediately conclude: "Oh, you must be a bit low"
You get your insulin pump out to change the tune that's actually playing from your ipod.
Hi,
Just wanted to share an amazing feature film I just saw called "Life for a child":

Really makes you appreciate all the equipment, help and support we get to help manage the disease.
I had one for just over a week once as well. I am on the pump and I simply had a sensor attached to my stomach (similar to the pump) which would send all the info to the pump every 5 minutes. Quite cool to see BG readings every 5 minutes for a whole week. I remember it being quite big though...
Hi,
I use quickset, just unstick a bit of the sticky bit enough to get a good grab on it. Then pull hard like your raking off a plaster. The quicker, the less pain, simples :)
Good luck.

Isn't 18 a bit high? Sure its for avoiding a hypo but wouldn't taking a bit of glucose throughout the exercise be a better plan? Fighting the hypo with glucose in stead of fighting the hyper with exercise...
Hi,
I am a very fond skier and spend quite a lot of time up there in the mountains. Only problem with this is the cold and my BG machine always shows an error because of this. Sometimes it prevents me from testing all day, which isn't the best as I am doing exercise all day. I've tried all the...
Stopped smoking after 6 years of 20 cigs a day because I went for an eye test and was told I had background retinotherapy in one eye. This freeked me out enough to stop as they said smoking increased the chance of retinotherapy in diabetics by 400% (I have only been diabetic for 6 years!). I...
Hi,
Could it not also be that your level was higher than that before? My doctor once told me that if you have a high level for a reasonably long period of time the level at which you will feel a "hypo" will go up as well as it is to do with difference in levels as well as the actual level...
Hi,
I live in France and for my first year of being a diabetic i was on novorapid and lantus, they are identical. Also for the levels they are in mg/dl = 18 * mmol.
Hope that helps.

I took Berocca tablets at one point which is supposedly very low in sugar and it made my levels go up quite a lot. It confused me quite a bit so I contacted them and they said it shouldn't effect sugar levels as it hardly has any sugar. Confused, I simply stopped taking them...
Hope that's...
Thanks for the replies.
Ebony I do have a back up plan in case the pump goes wrong but i did the stupid thing of keep hoping my patch would work and put an extra bolus, i will now resort straight to injections to get the level back to normal.
Jopar I think you've nailed my problem, I am becoming...
Hi everyone,
I went on the pump about 4 years ago now of which the first 3 went absolutely fine. Recently though i have been having major issues with the infusion sets not working and this week end a problem with leaking wires that led to DKA and hospital. I m just starting to wonder whether the...
First of all, thanks for the replies :)
I think I did in fact over eat before the run and hence ended up with a hyper. I went for another run yesterday which went very smoothly, simply made sure my level was fine before I left, ate a banana and then headed off and nothing weird happened to my...
