    WHY?!!

@stephenlopez The statement "I will make sure that there is not too much sugar." should be changed to "I will make sure that there is not too much sugar and carbohydrates". Emblazon it across your forehead. Dr Oz seems geared towards more Type 1 dudes. Glenn

Diagnosed Type 1 Told Today Maybe Type 2

There are exceptions. I'm T2 but I presented with a BG of 22.5 and HbA1c of 9.5 and I'd lost 6 kg. Glenn

    WHY?!!

Hi Stephen, If you're T2 a hypo is unlikely. Get yourself a meter, learn how and when to use it and knock off those carbs. Sounds easy but it is actually hard at first. You get used to it. Everybody is different but I have only 20g of carbs per feed and maybe 30g if it is the low GI type. I make...

How did your doctor tell you?

Gee, some horror stories here. I must be one of the few lucky ones with a fantastic GP. I suspected a problem but didn't know what it was. My spectacles prescription kept changing all the time, peeing like I'd been in the pub for a week and losing weight faster than I thought I should be. Saw my...

Can you eat anything with type 2 diabetes

You have to put it into context. You can have whatever you like. You just might not be able to have as much as you like. Bust your meal time carb limit too often and you'll pay the price. For instance, I restrict my carb intake to 20g per meal or 30g if it is low GI. No problem if I stay under...

    Type 2, 3 months now

@valuator Well you're hardly a fatty boomsticks and sound like you're doing the right things. I'm the same height as you but older (61) and dropped to 89kg from 106kg. Everybody's different but I find as far as BG goes I'm better off sticking to the three main meals plus a small snack before...

    Alpha lipioc acid

I've had no problems so far. Due for my 3 monthly HbA1C in 3 weeks. I'll see how the kidneys handle it from that. Glenn

    Peripheral Neuropathy

@Chris Sarantis It sounds suspicious. You really need to get a referral from your GP to see a neurologist. They will run a big series of blood tests looking for possible antibodies and maybe a nerve conduction test. It should be done sooner rather than later as nerve cells take a very long time...

Foot pain - treatment (lidocain, capsaicin)

I tried Zostrix which is a capsaicin based cream when I had burning toes due to PN. It worked ok once I got used to the cream. I don't use it any more as my PN is not too bad since I got my blood sugar in control. I do take R-ALA supplements though which have a record of being helpful. Glenn

    Type 2, 3 months now

That is pretty solid. My diagnosis HbA1C was 9.5 and it took a good many months to come down to 6.0 and a few more to get pre-meal readings in the 5s. I'm in the low 5s now most of the time before eating. It took over a year to get here though. I've lost 17 kg so I think that helped a lot.

    What is normal fingertip sensitivity?

@AdamJames Hi Adam, how's your toes. I have PN in my fingers and toes but it is quite mild and not causing me much trouble. Mine feel a little bit numb but just a little bit. Don't really notice it much. There are test pins available for this. Glenn
