    Triglycerides:HDL - Insulin Resistance

It can be startling to find how many supermarket prepared foods are hotching with carbs. For instance, zero or low fat yoghurt which has starch thickener, prepared sliced meat dusted with starch to keep the slices easy to separate, many kinds of dressed salads with sugary sauce, every ready meal...

    Type 2 Disappointing HbA1c

Illness and stress definitely raise blood glucose, with some of us by rather a lot. So although disappointing for you now, actually considering what you were up against at the time of the test, you've done really well. And the weight loss too - congratulations! Please don't feel despondent...

Can Metformin HCL 1000mg cause vitamin B12 deficiency?

Be aware that the NHS level of "acceptable" B12 levels is on the low side. If we supplement, any that the body doesn't need is excreted harmlessly, unlike such things as iron.

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

It's about time, too. Our appointments are not allowed to be long, so little/nothing is discussed and there isn't time for us to be seen as individuals. It's usually "take these and shove off".

    Accu Chek testing kit.

I used to change the lancets every few weeks (I only test a few times a week now) but my latest ones are single-use and I think terribly environmentally unfriendly as there is a lot of plastic to throw away each time and it's impossible to re-use them. However I do appreciate that I'm very lucky...

    NHS Diabetic Education Training Course

Nursie can't be that bothered if you aren't getting another test for a year. Do have a good read around here, and any time you'd like some friendly support, we are here for you. It won't take anything like a year - probably only a few weeks - for you to get hold of your blood glucose readings...

    Morning urine test

Perfectly reasonable question. I had to ask about this as well, as I'm up several times a night, and was told as long as it's before you hydrate it'll be fine.

    Feeling ashamed with new diagnosis

I agree with the others. And my husband - a lean, fit non-diabetic who eats all the time (!) and includes a huge amount of sweetschocolatecrispspeanutscakesbiscuitsrootveg.bread in his own diet has been marvellous in that he has readily adapted to cooking T2-friendly meals for me, just adding...

    ‘Stop Eating After 7pm’ Challenge

Welcome from me too. The only reason I'm not joining in is that we have always eaten at 6pm anyway! (I'd add a blushing emoticon if I knew how to add them).

    Too much

And also countless examples of people who lose weight dramatically on a low-carb regime even though they eat far more in calorie terms than they did on low-calorie diets. We are diverse and one size (or diet) doesn't suit all.
