    AUSTRALIA - Alpha Lipoic Acid

Thanks @Kristin251 - they say they ship to Australia and give a price for delivery by DHL - but got to the end of the order procedure and the website just locked up. Will have a look locally - but again maybe I need to do more research - if you were good on only 100mg tablets not sure why I've...

    AUSTRALIA - Alpha Lipoic Acid

@Tipetoo and @Indy51 - Thanks to you both for these - may have to do a bit more research as other threads on here talk about taking 600mg or more . The Herbs of Gold one is probably worth investigating - unfortunately I'm still not allowed to drive after my surgery - so having to rely on not...

    AUSTRALIA - Alpha Lipoic Acid

Just wondering if anyone on this side of the world has found a reliable source of this. I have awful neuropathy type pains and numbness on the inside of both my calves - docs agree it has nothing to do with my diabetes - instead its apparently from severe stenosis of the canal in my lower spine...

    Tiny dark chocolate bars

@Sue81 - from another Sue with a sweet tooth. Aldi's Moser Roth dark chocolate comes in individual small bars of 25g - 5 bars in a pack. They do several flavoured varieties - I love the sea salt one - as well as having varying percentages of cocoa bars. Might be worth checking out if you've...

Can I take an extra metformin

Another example of how different we all are!! They have made absolutely no difference to my appetite at all - wish they would - at least a little - :)

    5mm versus 4mm pen needles

I'm another one who has only ever used 4mm - I also was told no need to pinch. Have to admit though,I've considered asking a question a few times about why some injections are totally painless and others hurt like hell!! Just thought it was one of those almost unanswerable questions :)

    The Fool Learns NOTHING!

Know what you mean - I wear it as a badge of honour - growing old (well relatively!!!!) disgracefully - glad I'm not alone - LOL

Help type 2 LADA; please help

Hi @diabeticnewby - I've replied to your other thread recently and mentioned briefly my experience with increasing dosage. Just to add to that Endo told me to increase daily - diabetic nurse (a T2 diabetic herself) said it made much more sense to increase the dose, give it a few days to see what...

    The Fool Learns NOTHING!

Thank you for the 'Hug' and seriously no apology needed - didn't upset me at all - just thought I ought to clarify - and crikey from what you say I can totally understand where you're coming from!!!! Trouble is I guess I was frequently a naughty girl .......... and at the ripe old age of 62, I...

Type 2 Going onto insulin and high bloods. Help

Hi @diabeticnewby as you'll see from my signature, I only managed a month on Metformin from diagnosis to insulin. Can honestly say that personally I haven't had an issue since starting on it. I am quite OK taking Novomix - a mixed insulin that is 30% fast acting an 70% slow acting - although I...

    The Fool Learns NOTHING!

@Snapsy - sorry it was said sort of tongue in cheek - but I've been on the receiving end of what seemed like a verbal smacked bottom for a few things I consider a bit "naughty but nice" - like shock horror - drinking alcohol while taking Metformin!!!! Hope I'm forgiven :)

    The Fool Learns NOTHING!

Oh @leslie10152 - hope you're feeling better - but bet it seemed worth it at the time!! (I think I'm another naughty one on here!!) I've had the Diabetic Clinic here in Newcastle tell me that EVERYONE over indulges and spikes occasionally - some admit it, some don't - I guess it's just how...

Can I take an extra metformin

Interesting how many different opinions there are - and I'm afraid I'd never want to come across as strongly as some people seem to on here - but my experience with Metformin has been very different to others. I take 2000mg of slow release (as well as insulin before breakfast and dinner) all at...

How many people on the forum are from Australia?

Me - from Lake Macquarie NSW - currently in hospital in Maitland following double knee replacement. Progressing well, heading home on Friday and looking forward to making my own food choices again - though breakfast in bed every morning has been good!!

    Doing the right thing

For me, if a meal (breakfast or dinner - when I also take my Novomix insulin) isn't going to happen for whatever reason - I keep a supply of Salted Caramel Protein Bars - bought from Aldi here in Australia on hand. They feel a bit like a naughty treat - but are only 15g of carbs per bar - so not...

Type 2 with insulin in hospital in Australia (double knee replacement)

Thanks @Mep - I actually asked to speak to the dietician about the menu - especially for breakfast, and she told me eggs were an option - though they weren't on the menu sheet. Unfortunately, each time I've ordered them I've not got them - just a note saying "not available" so my breakfasts in...

Type 2 with insulin in hospital in Australia (double knee replacement)

First off thanks to those who have sent me good wishes on other threads - much appreciated. Things seem to be progressing pretty well - it's now day 4 after op on Tuesday - I'm using a low walker on my own and sticks with physio - and have done stairs this morning - so they seem happy. Will have...

    Doctors

Guess I'm pretty lucky here in Australia - as I'm on insulin I was given a basic meter for free (Freestyle Lite) and pay a subsidised rate for strips - $2.60 for 100 (just over £1.50 at the current exchange rate) Normal price is around $16 (around £9.70). Our health service is supposed to be...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

In hospital (in Australia) - day 3 after double knee replacement on Tuesday. Fasting at 6am was 4.9 - night nurse totally panicked - wouldn't let me get up to go to the loo and immediately brought me 6 Jatz crackers with cheese (think in UK - Ritz are the equivalent). By breakfast 2 hours later...
