    VERY high hbac1

It's good to hear that you've got a proper diagnosis now! Good luck with the appointments, here's to sane and sensible medics to work with. I know pretty much nothing about Type1, but I do know there are lots of knowledgeable people on this forum who will offer plenty of help, support and...

Blurry vision caused by dry eyes ? Very worried please help

Something like that I would probably go and talk to a pharmacist, as you're going to the GP tomorrow you might not think it worth the effort, but any half decent pharmacist will be able to offer you some advice. For what it's worth, I can't wear contact lenses as my eyes just dry up completely...

    Monogenic diabetes in the Guardian

I just saw this on the Guardian website. It's not something that is relevant to me, but I reckoned that this place was where there would be people who would be interested. It's not something I've heard of before now...

    Diet drinks.

There are some other brands around as well, I've had the same sort of thing from Sainsbury, but Dash is the brand name I remember.

    Diet drinks.

I've found a brand of flavoured fizzy water that I like, fizzy water and fruit flavour but no sugars, sweeteners or calories. It's called Dash, and comes in several flavours: https://dash-water.com/ I went cold turkey on diet drinks many years ago when I was horrified at the number of Diet Coke...

    Anecdata - 100% cocoa chocolate

I was told a couple of months ago that I was pre-diabetic (having another A1c next month). I went very hard on low carb and also started walking a lot - from a base of effectively zero I'm now at between 5 - 6 miles a day walking. I've done low carb before, lost a lot of weight, let it slip...

The power of fasting blood glucose

I've found the same. The bloke shape wanted take away pizza a week or so ago, I had some mozzarella sticks (it was the 'best' option on the menu. I was not tempted by the pizzas from there because he and I do not share the same taste in such things) My BG was raised above normal-for- me for...

The science based vs internet keto (low-carb)

For me it's not so much that I 'prefer' US based low carb advocates as that those are the ones that the YouTube algorithm shows to me. OK, one of them it's because he has a lovely southern US accent and I can listen to that all day (so long as they're not spouting arrant nonsense) I've been...

    Shorts

I really am. I'm also reminded of the lesson I learned several years ago - going low carb does not feel like a punishment diet as so many regimes do. I have some clothes from back when I lost weight before, I would love to get back into some of them. But I also have, like you, barely worn...

    Shorts

Mostly right now I'm wearing shorts held up with a scarf used as a belt. Luckily I have a tendency towards being an aged hippy so I have plenty of scarves around the place. I dread to think what the neighbours think, but no one has felt moved to say anything to me as yet.

The science based vs internet keto (low-carb)

The main huge benefit I find when doing low carb (apart from weight loss and stable blood sugar - though I've only recently started monitoring blood sugar since the GP told me I was in the pre-diabetic range), is that I actually feel hungry when I need some food and not when I don't. If I'm...

    Shorts

I had a phone appointment with the GP a few weeks ago, he told me that my blood results were in the pre-diabetic range. I managed to convince him that I'd give diet and exercise a try before talking to a diabetic nurse (although he did - comfortingly - say the words 'low carb' when I was talking...

    Observation/confirmation

Yes - turns out I'm actually an innumerate twit, especially when posting half awake at 2:30am. My readings the day I was feeling decidedly seedy were all up by 1mmol/L not 1%, so a decided blip in my graph, not huge but definite given my previous readings.

    Observation/confirmation

I do mean 1%. My numbers have been utterly predictable on what I was eating such that, as it was all day, the change in pattern was noticeable. Had it just been one number then no, I wouldn't have noticed it, it was the pattern that was very clear, given my history.

    Observation/confirmation

I've been testing my blood glucose regularly for a few weeks, since the GP told me I was pre-diabetic and muttered about appointments with 'diabetic nurse'. I wanted to try 3 months of controlling things myself and seeing what I could do before going to more medical intervention stuff. I've...

Hi diagnosed Type 2 about a month ago

When I first started using a meter I got 'Lo' a few times. Then I worked out that you need to dip the end of the strip into the blood droplet rather than putting it on top of the strip. If you dip the end of the strip into the blood (on my meter/strips anyway) you see the blood fill the little...

    Fruity question.

(Vegetarian here) I base my meals on piles of green vegetables - so cucumber, celery, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage (all but the cabbage I prefer raw to cooked - I've always been happy to eat a lump of cauliflower the way most people would eat an apple). I acknowledge I may be unusual in...

    First post - meter/numbers question

We need to talk to the GP surgery today, so I'll try to remember to ask them what I need to do. Thanks!

    First post - meter/numbers question

I do use Patient Access but I've not got access to my test results on there, is there another system that I've missed? Being able to not bother the receptionists would be great. They are a good/helpful bunch but very busy and short staffed (who'd've thought it in the current situation?)

    First post - meter/numbers question

I'm psyching myself up for the assault course that is the GP surgery phone system. The practice is great, but the phone system is ... baroque at times. I will go to the course if it's offered again I think. As you say, there may be something in there - I did want to be armed with 'these are my...
