    Caffeine and blood sugars?

caffeine should have an effect on blood sugar because of cortisol release. This is something that also my consultant made me aware as I am literally espresso addicted. The effect I guess is different from person to person. I use a cgm and I can see a slight increase (1-2 mg ) after drinking...

    Pump and Swimming

Hi, when I swim I just simply detach my pump from my body. I swim for one hour and I definitely don't need insulin while swimming. Actually I start reducing my basal at least two hours in advance.

Medtronic new advice on taking loan pump abroad

I haven't put it in my case this last time....but actually I did in the past. I also always check that a pump is actually inside the box and that I am not receiving an empty box ( which, to be fair, wouldn't surprise me ). I know medtronic says this could create delays but actually it took them...

Medtronic new advice on taking loan pump abroad

Hi Riri, I guess what they mean is that security now can ask you to turn all your electronic devices on. This works not just for an insulin pump but also for iPad or iPhone. To be fair I had my medtronic loan pump last month and I was not asked to put a battery on, but I knew it could have...

Medtronic CGM and Pump in one

That's interesting. I am going to a pump meeting in September (10) as well, in London. Really curious to see what the future holds. Pump & sensors have improved so much my diabetes control and quality of life and now I don't wanna miss any new improvement.

It really seems great! Not anymore 2 devices.

Just got a sensor, great but a full time occupation

Yes I agree with carbsrok. After a bit you will get tired to check every minute your trend. What is great is, anyway, that you will get alarms if your bg will go above your max threshold or below your min. One important point: don't calibrate when your bg is rapidly changing.

Time Zone Adjustments on a Pump

Hi Riri, i decided to change 8 hours in one shot, as soon as I landed, instead than 4 hours the first day and other 4 hours the second day ( the time difference was 8 hours). It worked well for me that way. My Gp suggestion was to try 4 hours the first day and other four the next. My diabetes...

Time Zone Adjustments on a Pump

Hi Dave, I am not sure I understand exactly your question but I'll try to give you an answer. I went to California & Mexico last February & march, which is 8 hours difference. My concern was when to change time in my pump: 1) the day before travelling,2) gradually or 3) once in the California...

    Mio cannula set and DKA

Hi Sam, I use the mio (almost 2 years now) and luckily I never had a problem. I never tried the silhouette, but when I started with the pump I used a different infusion set (I don't remember the name) which I decided to change. I also use a cgm so should the mio not work properly I would realise...

    Disconnecting from pump for swimming

Hi Lucie, when I was on my last holiday I spent hours and hours in a swimming pool. Every hour I checked my bg ( I use a CGM so it was easy job) and bolused calculating the time I had been detached from the pump and what my hourly basal should have been. Again being on holiday and hot weather i...

    insulin pump and skin infections

Hi I also use Medtronic and mio infusion set. Luckily I never had a problem. And I go swimming often which could be a risk for the area. I also change my infusion set before my dinner so I can easily realise if the new set is working or not. I know that it is suggested not to change before a...

    Security Checks

Spiker, That's exactly why I said it is still a blurred area. At the airport they will tell you they are safe for pumps. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Security Checks

Hi engineer, I would like to see a picture of these "new full body scanners" as there's no clarity around. We are told to avoid to go through them, but I have never seen a picture and the insulin pump manufacturer should be clearer. I had last February, for the first time, issues in Heathrow and...

    Too good hba1c!?!??

It may sound absurd that a doctor says that a HbA1c 6.1 is too low. But the reason behind this statement is that if you are achieving this value running your blood sugars too low for too long you are taking serious risks. It's true it is your body.... but a doctor must warn you around the...

    Preference? Pump or insulin?

I am 34 years diabetic. I Never wanted a pump. I thought I didn't want to depend on a machine and I didn't want this to be attached to me 24 hours. Then a year and half ago I decided to give it a try as I was struggling with insulin unpredictability and severe hypos and my quality of life was...

Ever been asked to leave a shop or restaurant due to a hypo?

I'm actually shocked and deeply sorry to read what happened to you. It's simply appalling. In 34 years of diabetes I never faced anything like that. I'm sure they must have a duty, when it's justified by health reasons, to let you drink or eat whatever you need as an emergency. This is by law in...
