Mine too! First thing GP told me was “you can reverse this”. Gave me a leaflet about Dr Michael Mosely’s low carb diet.

    Low Carb substitutes we like

I haven’t tried panda flour yet. Is it a direct substitute for ordinary flour? I haven’t tried as regular flour, I wouldn’t think so as it’s gluten free and highly absorbent. Given that it is gluten free, it’s very easy to work with. And Ketorama provide a very helpful recipe booklet free...

    Low Carb substitutes we like

Big recommendation for Ketorama website. You can buy readymade or the cheaper alternative of mixes to make yourself. Their Bagel mix is easy and tastes great, not rubbery at all. Their Panda flour makes good pastry, I’ve made pasties, pies, sausage rolls and dumplings. The cakes are...

UK equivalent of breakfast sausage ??

Morrisons and Tesco The best/finest sausages are around 1.5g carbs per sausage. They used to be less carby, but have recently dropped their meat content from 95 to 90 per cent. Sneaky way to use filler and not put the price up. Grrr I make meatballs, burgers, meatloaf etc with Pork mince, or...

    Gluco Navii vs SD Codefree

I switched to the GN after the SD code free kept giving high readings for no reason. Caused me no end of panic! Have found it a solid reliable piece of kit for 8 months now. I buy from https://homehealth-uk.com/all-products/glucose-navii-blood-glucose-test-strips-50-strip-pack/ free...

    lidl protein rolls

Ok drum roll please! Had half a roll(well buttered) with 2 boiled eggs, mayo and 3 slices of salami. 5.6 before first bite, 2 hours later 5.9. Was very tasty, a bit chewy but in a good crusty way. Made a nice change.

Warning: new NHS 'Living with Type2 Diabetes' web page

Well worth a read, when you see who actually had input to the Eatwell guide. The mind truly boggles! Because it has NHS/ Public Health England backing, you’d hope it was designed by nutritionists, dieticians etc. https://www.zoeharcombe.com/2016/03/eatwell-guide-conflicts-of-interest/

    dapagliflozin and raised blood glucose

I was put on Dapagliflozin when first diagnosed. GP was very insistent I drank plenty of water, at least 2 litres a day. And to be meticulous about hygiene to prevent uti. Changed to low carb diet, plenty of exercise and 3 months later hba1c had dropped from 87 to 38. Had no problems with...

Hallelujah, I’ve made sausage rolls and Pasties!!

After seeing a recommendation on here for the website Ketorama, I thought I’d give them a go. They sell a flour blend- Panda flour, with the claim that you can make pastry. I was somewhat sceptical, given that it’s a gluten free mix and for me that’s virtually impossible to work with. But...

My first experiment with resistant starch

Thanks, pasta I’m sorted with my Lupin flour version and rice is cauliflower with lashings of butter. Celeriac makes great chips so I’m pretty well sorted. Think I’ll stick to the odd bit of mash for a cottage pie, it’s a winter treat. General consensus seems to be it works for potatoes but...

My first experiment with resistant starch

Having read various articles about the benefits of resistant starch, I had a trial run today. I normally make a cottage pie with mashed swede instead of potato. This time I bought some Tesco mashed potato, chilled in the fridge for a couple of days. I used 150grams, mixed with mash swede. I...

HBa1C Test - Been told to wait

If it helps, my partner had nerve damage to her feet( completely numb) when she was on chemo. To the point they gave her extra time between chemo sessions to try and recover. 5 years on she still has sporadic neuropathy in both feet. She is non diabetic.
