    Eating out nightmare

I eat out so infrequently that I have what I want when out, including puddings. 4-5 meals a year isn't going to be my downfall.

    How, I mean, just how??

My sourdough is about 1/3 wholemeal rye and 2/3 good quality strong wheat flour, and I add caraway seeds and yes, it tastes and smells fantastic. It's been going since 2018 I think, though I had to 'refresh' the starter recently - the volume of starter in it's jar had crept up, so I got rid of...

I do, but 2-3 times a year. Not every week or even every month.

Yes, mine goes back to 2008.

    Newbie Alert

Greetings. My HbA1c was 56 at diagnosis, that's not horribly high - many people here start with it in the 90s or over 100. I wasn't given medication for diabetes, I was given a phone appointment with a dietician, and details of how to join a website (in Scotland) which lets me see a lot of my...

    Eating out nightmare

A decent place would bake their own, even if they didn't make them. The wee shop in the next village does that, and they are rather nice. I think they are made by Delice de France and they go to the shop frozen.

    Eating out nightmare

I only eat out at decent places to eat, it's never a cheap meal for me, so I don't do it very often! And when I do, I don't worry hugely about what I eat. 6 times a year isn't going to be my downfall. I will be eating out in early June, at the place in my village with an AA Rosette. :) mod...

Don't focus on your weight, look at your HbA1c. However I see your are T2 on insulin, and have had several cancer ops. Not sure if the later will affect your diabetes or not, I see it affects your ability to do sport. :( If you can walk or cycle, both are excellent gentle forms of exercise...

    Update on my health

I really, really they have caught it in time. It's drastic surgery.

For me it's home-made marmalade, which is much sharper than anything in a shop, on fresh bread with a goodly amount of butter, or, even, creme fraiche. Or same fresh bread with really good quality cheese.

Can I be carb sensitive but still have a normal HbA1c?

Rice from the takeaway is mostly water - it can absorb many times it's own volume. That's partly why it's not satiating.

    Disaster discovery diabetes T2.

Yes to sports, any sport you enjoy. And yes to walking and cycling, both of which you can hopefully do from your front door. No to sugar, sugary foods and carbohydrates - rice, pasta, potatoes, bread and so on. Yes to studying labels on packets... I take it the 11 is an HbA1c of 11%. If it...

    Hi

Welcome. Can't comment on metformin as I don't take it, but are you drinking plenty of liquids, and are you on any other medication? Some BP meds commonly cause it. The blood test is HbA1c. It took me a few months to get that right!

    Very Low-Carb Diet Plans

Unfortunately I love potatoes & fresh bread, especially if the bread is with good cheese! Chocolate - especially dark chocolate - speaks to me as well.

    Very Low-Carb Diet Plans

That is indeed what I meant. And I personally find it really hard to watch people eating pasta, rice, bread, potatoes etc. without joining in. They are calling to me.

    Very Low-Carb Diet Plans

Fundamentally you are looking for ways to replace / eliminate starches and sugars in your diet. Sugars are easier IMHO - stop taking sugar in coffee / tea (if you do), stop drinking full-fat drinks, stop (mostly) eating cakes, biscuits, pastries, fruit juice... I say 'mostly' as personally I...

New pre diabetic trying to gain muscle

As well as the right diet - plenty of protein - you need to do the right kinds of exercise. But is it bulk and/or strength you want to build? And I hope both flexibility and cardiovascular fitness (endurance) are in your mix. Brisk walking - enough to get you somewhat out of breath - will...
