New to forum and just found out I'm pregnant!

Congratulations @Jessakirby!! I've had Type 1 for 20 years and pregnant with my first, 10 weeks. At my appointment last week I went over my blood readings with my DSN and mentioned when I hit a high like 13 or 16 I freak out! She assured me it will happen (sometimes for no reason) and as long as...

    Who are pumps best for?

Some of my type 1 friends have excellent control with mdi. My hospital was able to do a cgm test for two weeks that confirmed long lasting insulin/basal wasnt working for me. Before the pump my ha1c was 9 and now with a pump for the last 10 months I've got to 6.9! Pumps are not any easier just...

    Sick of my pump already!!!!

Sounds very familar! I wanted to throw my pump out the window and never see it again after the first couple weeks! Poor husband had to put up with a lot of tears but glad I has his support to keep going. A pump was something a dreamed about for years. It took me a good 4 months to get the levels...

    Type 1 diabetes and metformin?

Yes i have been on Metformin for a few years now and have found it helps with the insulin absorption. Type 1 diagnosed when 11 years old. However metformin can be tricky to take for some, i can only take 500g a day, when i took twice a day had bad side effects with indigestion and heartburn

Scared to go for a1c test

Used to be one of the reasons i hated going to the doc. 20 years on now i have come to realise if its high they are there to help get it down. I wouldn't be in range and ok to get pregnant without my diabetes team

has any type 1 ever managed to lose weight while on Insulin

Type 1 for 20 years, I lost almost a stone at slimming world at beginning of the year. 1st diet that has worked for me and it is ok for diabetics. Now pregnant so will be going on it again after the baby comes :)

    Basal insulin split dose units

Before i was on a pump i was taking 40 units of lantus at breakfast and 20 at bedtime so yours sound very small compared. Everyone has different needs though so go by what your DSN and docs say :)

    Let's have a grumble!

I recently had a diabetic friend tell another non-diabetic friend "i eat more sugar now than before i was a diabetic!" while the non-diabetic friend gasped i was laughing! :hilarious: I'm pretty sure the general non-diabetic population thinks all diabetics are on type 2 no sugar diets!

explaining what it's really like to live with Type 1

It is a rough run with many ups and downs. You can live a life if you don't let it get you down. I'd rather live with diabetes than try to live with something worse...

    I really want a baby!

@Pilzy-89 and @wannabemammy your posts are such an inspiration to me since i'm at 10 weeks and seeing how those are getting on further along keeps me going. Took me 2+ years in the pre-preg clinic and 7 months on the pump to get my HA1C down to under 7% (roughly 50mmol?) so its exciting finally...

I just went to Los Angeles for Christmas which is the same 8 hour difference and my dsn recommended switching the time when i landed and it worked fine. :) But my rate is 12am 1.5 to 3am 1.7 which isnt as big of a increase as you have

Had a CGM (weekly change) before the pump for two weeks and almost made me go crazy with the itching!:inpain: Since i've had my pump and change it every 3 day it was red and itchy the first month or so then i must have gotten used to it since it doesn't now after having it for 6 months. How do you know if the cannula is right one?

Thanks for your reply tim2000s. If there is a "kink in the cannula" what does that look like?....sorry to ask a basic question but havent ever noticed anything like that! Also would you use different cannula for different locations on the tummy? Cause some spots are more sensitive than others...
