    Travel insurance

Can anyone recommend a good travel insurance to cover diabetes and other pre-existing medical conditions? I have just phoned Staysure (which I used last year) and they have come back with a price of £109 which I think is a bit expensive. Any other companies? thanks

Fast Day and pre-lunch BS level

I do 2 days of Fasting a week whereby I skip breakfast and have a light lunch. Today was my Fast Day and I checked my BS level before lunch and was disappointed that it was a 7.4 - I expected it to be much lower. Does anyone know why this is? thanks

Is a FBG level a baseline level?

My readings pre-meal are usually in the higher 6's and sometimes lower 7's and post-meals are usually with the recommended range of 8.5 or below (sometimes lower) and my bedtime readings are OK too I think (lower 7's or sometimes upper 6's). I have had about 3 large spikes this month (11.3 or...

Is a FBG level a baseline level?

I'm getting there slowly with a low carb diet so it has reduced quite a bit. I do try and stick to 50g of carbs daily but sometimes I have less and it doesn't seem to be doing me any harm. I can of course discuss this at my next diabetic review. Thanks

Is a FBG level a baseline level?

I would love to lower my FBG levels but they seem to 'stick' in the lower or upper 7's - is this my baseline level and do I accept it? how can I lower it? thanks

    Foot care

I have made a first appointment with a local Podiatrist and will have to pay £25 and think it may be worth getting feet checked every 4 months or twice a year as you can't take any chances with feet and diabetes. I must admit I was put off initially as I didn't want to pay the money but I think...

    Has anyone given up chocolate?

I sometimes have a very small piece of dark chocolate (70% or above) and I tend to order my chocolate bars from Atkins website, you can also get them off Ebay or Amazon, they are very low in sugar and very low in carbs but are expensive.

    Foot care

I've just ordered some CCS foot cream, thanks for the tip. I get my feet checked for neuropathy once a year as part of my diabetic review but it's not really a full examination of the feet, they just use an instrument to check for feeling. After reading a very scary article last night about...

    Diabetic Retinopathy appointment

Had the results of my diabetic retinopathy and I still have background retinopathy so that's 2 years running now. Hopefully it will improve next year and not worsen.

Why are my FBG levels fluctuating?

It does sound complex but I'm going to continue with 5:2 and low carb intake and watching calories. it does seem to be working and I'm losing weight more than I ever have done over the years so I will stick at it but just weird this morning when my FBG was high (ish) and sort of 'stuck' mid...

Why are my FBG levels fluctuating?

OK, have just hit another 'mystery' can someone explain? After my FBG reading of 8.9 as I stated above, I have not had any breakfast as I am on a Fast Day today and just thought I would test again expecting it to be quite low - it reads 8.3 !! - I don't understand this, seems like my level this...

    Diabetic Retinopathy appointment

I had my annual diabetic retinopathy appointment yesterday and now have to wait for the results. I had a really good chat with the nurse about this as last year, for the first time in 9 years since I've been diabetic, my results came back with 'background retinopathy'. After I had my test...

Why are my FBG levels fluctuating?

I don't understand why when I went to bed last night (after midnight) my BG reading was a good 6 and when I tested my FBG this morning it was 8.9 I'm on my Fast Day today (am doing the 8 week Blood Sugar Diet) recommended by Dr Michael Moseley and am trying to lose weight by low carbing...

    Being diabetic and injuries

Just to keep you all updated, I am slowly gaining confidence in riding a bike again :-) my partner is being very patient with me and we go and have a half an hour or so lesson each evening and I actually rode my bike in a straight line last night. It's the confidence that I need but I can see...

    Being diabetic and injuries

I mainly want to cycle for pleasure so that my partner and I can take our bikes with us when we go camping etc so it is just for this, I don't want to cycle to work or anything like that on the roads, I don't think I would feel confident about that but good to hear the positives and I am...
