What does the UK leaving the EU mean for us?

In a nutshell, was being part of the EU to stick together and help each other out? bailing Greece out etc? I know there were benefits of staying in but surely having control back of our own country and finances should be OK in the long term? I can understand some countries who need to be part...

How many grams of carbs tolerated?

Thanks Kristin. Normally I would have had the rice and thought 'well I have to eat it as it comes with the meal' but realise that I don't have to - that I have a choice and I made the right choice in asking to have my rice replaced with the vegetables :-) I come from Italian background so am...

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

When I was first diagnosed 7 years ago I was told not to test and I was on diet/lifestyle monitoring only and was told I didn't need to test so I used to buy the odd box of testing strips from Ebay (I paid £25 for a pot of 50 strips the first time) and I think it's disgusting that we can't get...

    Late night snacking

I wish my BS was 5.8 but determined to get there eventually. I had 2 thin slices of cheese before bedtime one evening this week and for me my BS level in the morning was lower than normal which was good. I too would have a few nuts or peanut butter as an alternative. Gone are the days for me...

How many grams of carbs tolerated?

Please may I share this - I feel quite elated! :-) At lunchtime today, I went with a group of colleagues to a Leaving Do at our local Thai restaurant, I was a bit nervous on my food choices as I have been low carbing for only a few days now. I decided to have a mushroom hot and sour soup for...

How many grams of carbs tolerated?

Thanks for the advice. As I am now finally taking my diabetes seriously for the first time in 7 years, I will take on board any advice and I think this Forum is brilliant! :-) It all makes sense - oh and my book The Blood Sugar Diet arrived yesterday :-)

How many grams of carbs tolerated?

Hello All, I've recently started this 'low carbing' and just wondered how many carbs people can tolerate at each meal. I am going low carb so just having less than 80g daily but last night I had a small seeded roll with my salad and the roll had 27.5g of carbs and when I tested after my meal...

    Vitamin deficiencies

Yes I do, I currently take x2 metformin daily. Maybe I will get tested at my next review but if not, I will ask to be tested. I don't think i'll start buying the supplements until I know for sure even though I am tempted to start taking them anyway but it may be best to wait and see. It's...

    Diabetes Reversal

Thanks for your words of encouragement, it keeps me going knowing how many on here have achieved what I want to achieve. I don't think I was in 'denial' as such with my diabetes as it came as a huge shock to me (although not sure why as diabetes runs in my family on my mother's side, plus the...

What was your Hba1c when you were put on metformin?

Mine was 56 and I currently take x2 Metformin tablets daily but I am on a mission to lose lots of weight, go low carb to lower my levels for my next review.

    Vitamin deficiencies

At my last Hbaic I was found to be slightly deficient in vitamin D3 so my GP prescribed me some tablets to take for 12 weeks and then I should be re-tested for this again when I have my next review. I've also noticed that vitamin B12 is also quite important for us diabetics but I haven't been...

    Diabetes Reversal

I have already started to see a slight drop in my FBS level. Up until now, it has been in the 8's but this morning I was so pleased to see a FBS level of 7.9 - I know it's still high for FBS but it is very good if it is already dropping :-)

    Diabetes Reversal

Well I saw my GP this morning and all very positive and encouraging. He said to 'go for it' and lose the weight I need to lose and to try the Blood Sugar Diet (I've purchased the book and waiting for it to arrive). He said it's never too late to make the changes but he said that it is not a...
