    Diabetes Reversal

Not entirely sure about this LCHF diet although a lot of diabetics seem to be getting on OK with it. How does the HF side affect cholesterol? I take one 40mg Atorvastatin daily and have been for years.

    Diabetes Reversal

Yes I emailed the university and you can find the information on their website. I would give it a go but I have 10 weeks to go before I go on my holiday and thought it might be best to start with The Blood Sugar Diet and see how that goes first. I will keep you posted tomorrow on what my GP...

    Diabetes Reversal

Is it still possible to be able to try and 'reverse' diabetes after 7 years? I am T2 and not on Metformin (twice daily) but I've now come to the conclusion (yes, it's taken me 7 years!) that I now want to try and beat this dreaded D. I have a lot of weight to lose (ie about 4 or 5 stones with...

Type 2 Cutting carbs - is this too low?

I am going to see my GP tomorrow morning to discuss with him about me trying The Blood Sugar Diet doing the 5:2 as recommended by Dr Michael Moseley. I would love to be brave and go drastic and do the Newcastle Diet but sounds a bit too extreme for me but I will never say never - I think I...

Type 2 Cutting carbs - is this too low?

After 7 years of diabetes I'm now on a mission to get out of the 'obese' category as I've heard so many people who have managed to either reverse their diabetes or gone into non-diabetic ranges. My partner's mum was pre-diabetic a couple of years ago and with attending Slimming World and losing...

Type 2 Cutting carbs - is this too low?

I'm cutting carbs and today I've only had 44.3g of carbs - my question is, is this amount too low? I'm struggling to eat anymore. How many grams per day do most people eat if cutting carbs? Thanks

    Vitamin deficiencies

At my last diabetic review, I was found to have a vitamin D deficiency so was prescribed vitamin D tablets for 12 weeks. Apart from vitamin D, what other vitamins could we (Type 2 diabetics on Metformin) be deficient in? I will now keep a check on my Vit D levels from now on and request...

    Fatty liver

I am going to start the 5:2 diet recommended by Dr Michael Moseley from his book The 8 week blood sugar diet this week. I have already started cutting down my calories and carbs, I want to reverse this awful disease.

    Retinopathy reversal

After 7 years of diabetes, last year was the first time they found some 'background retinopathy'. I'm due for my next annual appointment in July. I too am hoping I can reverse this. This week I am going to start the 5:2 diet recommended by Dr Michael Moseley from his book The 8 week blood...

5:2 diet and Newcastle Diet - how do they compare?

I am considering doing the Newcastle Diet and will see my GP about it next Tues. I just wondered how the 5:2 diet compares with the Newcastle Diet? is there much difference and do they both achieve the same goal? ie to reverse diabetes or regain good control? thanks

    Optifast 800 shakes/soups/bars

Muzza3 - did you stick to the 600 calories per day as the ND suggests? what about the 5:2 diet? would that produce as good results too? I will be inspired by your success in this :-)

    Optifast 800 shakes/soups/bars

Thanks. As I said, I am using Atkins brand as after doing a bit of online 'research' all the other products (including Slimfast) had such a high sugar content. I am happy to stick with Atkins if we don't necessarily need to use Optifast but I will also google Almased and have a look at that...

    Optifast 800 shakes/soups/bars

Where can I buy Optifast 800 shakes/soups/bars recommended for the Newcastle diet? I am using Atkins at the moment which is low carb and low sugar and compared to Slimfast products (which I noticed is so high in sugar) which is great but wondered if I should switch to Optifast as this was used...

    Fatty liver

Keesha, I don't know but it's a bit annoying that I found out 'by chance' otherwise I would never have known that I had fatty liver. I think people with diabetes should have a scan to check for this as if left untreated, can cause serious problems. I think it's probably due to costs and saving...

Thanks 13lizanne, that is very encouraging to hear, did you do it via weight loss and diet? Brunneria, where do I go to read the forum please? thanks

    Fatty liver

I was shocked to discover last year that I have fatty liver (it was discovered by chance when I went for a scan for what I thought was gall stones). I did not know this but fatty liver is part of the metabolic syndrome. I am struggling to lose weight although this has made me more determined...

liquid diet for 2 days a week

I have decided to start replacing one of my meals with a protein shake for a couple of days a week to help me speed up my weight loss. Are there any recommendations for the product to use? I don't really want to use Slimfast as it contains a lot of sugar so not sure which brand to go for that...
