    Steroid-Induced Diabetes

I have always considered my Diabetes was steroid induced because I diagnosed it myself after being on a long term dose of steroids for asthma. The diagnoses was confirmed by my doctor. My mother had developed diabetes at a similar age (mid fifties), we had both been on a long term steroid...

How and why to move from primary to secondary care?

I was put on to the hospital diabetic clinic as soon as it was decided I should go on to insulin. I’m still called for regular 6 monthly checks by my GP and these used to fit in with alternate 6 month checks at the hospital. However it got out of phase so sometimes the two are close together...

Current NHS dietary advice for diabetes.....

I am appalled every time I go to the Diabetic section at my hospital for regular checks. They are still offering the help booklet with exactly the same advice as quoted on the photocopies posted Eastport. When will they learn by the many great results of a low carb diet and publish something...

    Who has had steroids?

    New medication

I’ve just been reading a thread (which I can’t find now) in which rosiglitazone was mentioned. I was put on this a few years ago and fortunately I saw in the press that there were concerns about its safety in relation to heart attacks. I had noticed my ankles were swelling since taking it and...

    Travel letter

I am type 2 insulin dependent and I always carry a letter from my specialist which states what my medication is and that I must carry my medication with me on an aircraft, not in the luggage hold because of low temperatures. I have only been asked for the letter once!

    Help in dealing with neuropathy

I was interested in your comment about using Aloe Vera Gel. I suffer from restless leg syndrome and recently have been getting severe leg cramps at night. The coolness of the Aloe Vera seems to help this. I would also mention that I have been reading these posts because I think I have the...

Is there an alternative to Metformin?

I too and my twin sister took Metformin with resulting stomach problems. However, my doctor suggested that as I was on the maximum dose I should go on to insulin. I really wish I hadn't because my diabetic control is not good. However, when my twin sister mentioned to her doctor about...
