Tannith, I do need to clarify one point. My care home denied they had a person who was a member of staff in the building who was believed to have Covid (later confirmed). That said considering the potential risk a deep clean was only being done 3 days after event and there was no cleaning of...

Very glad it went well for you. I was reading an article on the Guardian online about how peoples employment has been affected. Focused on a cafe, television and a gift shop. The cafe and gift shop really struggling as no hardly any footfall. Cafe said had done take away service but not the...

The evidence certainly doesnt seem to indicate in any way a mass return to school is possible in a safe way. As with return to work a lot of businesses seem happy for people to work at home with maybe people going into office occasionally if needed. Sadly cafes and restaurants in inner cities...

Hi Max68 sadly your experience par for the course, although recently DWP has been prosecuted over disability benefits so there is hope. I think they are expecting record claimants and have appointed thousands of new staff. I must admit someone phoned me about my UC claim and they were incredibly...

Thankyou for your kind comment which I've only just seen, its been a strange few days! There are so many ripples with how this virus affects people both physically and emotionally. Sometimes it just hits me what a complex process it would be for any government. Groups of people are and will...

Thankyou Max68. Yes it's almost like a battle of wills at the moment. My aim since mid March has basically buy myself time and see what happens. Fortunately I have savings which if I'm careful can eke out until next may, I'm mortgage free so at least dont have that worry. On advice from Union...

Covid and Work, Covid Advice and General Chat

I think the situation gets more complex after each government conference. From August its between employers and employees. Education do at least seem to be trying to keep everyone safe, though quite how I dont know. Everyone is affected in so many ways and there are so few reliable solutions and...

Thankyou purplesally. I have just been on CQC website but couldnt find anything specific to staff risk assessment. I even googled the phrase in relation to staff risk assessments and CQC. It is early in day and only on my first coffee so it could be me. I did wonder if it's on a provider only...

It certainly is and that is a horrific thought. To a lesser degree theres an impact on grandparents who provide regular childcare. Ideally you would hope there would be official advice in some form. Failing that advice from GP etc. Regardless the effect either way I imagine will be substantial.

That sounds very positive and helpful, its good that line manager is approachable and open to negotiation and compromise. Sadly mine are exactly the opposite, which is no surprise at all. It's purely bad timing on my part that happen to be in wrong place at wrong time. In every other way I'm...

Well my anxiety hit roof again! Just received email from work with an attached risk assessment for me to complete ASAP. I come out as low risk.i have passed it on to Union and waiting to hear back. Meanwhile although I know I cant be forced into anything I am really starting to doubt my own...

    Type 2 Disability discrimination?

12 hours in a building that is poorly ventilated, understaffed at best of times and where access to relevant PPE is variable and where Coronavirus is active is not my idea of covid safe. The economy that I would be contributing to would be the owners luxury car collection. I'm lucky,I have a...

    Diet sodas

I tend to drink them rarely and usually as a mixer when obviously better than full sugar. There have been questions over sweeteners for years, probably best to aim for most natural. For me I did hear one argument against diet drinks. It was on a BBC programme about how/ why diets work or dont...

    Type 2 Disability discrimination?

My employer( a care home) refused to furlough me if not shielded. Wanted proof off Dr and by time got it was too late to apply anyway. Also managed to get out of paying SSP. Long story but working with Union. I'm currently signed off by GP due to work related anxiety. I have been surviving on...

Exactly ,it makes no logical sense whatsoever. There are ways it could be done safely with planning. They just cant be bothered/ dont care. Its terrifying how not only ordering vulnerable/ shielding back to work whilst removing as much support as can. Sadly I think that this virus is generally...

Max68 that sums it up perfectly, even for a football novice[emoji4]. I think it will be interesting to see how tomorrows order to return to the office goes. At least they admit it's to benefit the economy. As usual it's quite contradictory and all about not travelling in peak times etc. This...

It is almost unbelievable isnt it? Rarely for me I had national and local news on this morning. The local news ran an item on how things were at the beginning of lockdown and how things are now things "are returning to normal". One thing that really stuck in my mind was when social distancing...

Yes,on reading comment from Matt Hancock it made no sense whatsoever! Basically said yep high risk of infection but as good as shrugged shoulders. I think they are fighting a losing battle and indeed playing a reactive game of "whack a mole". To openly state the risk and admit they havent a...
