Covid and Work, Covid Advice and General Chat

As I scrolled down the article I was hoping to see a supportive comment from Diabetes UK. The government wont change anything until absolutely forced to ,and by then it will be to late. The only way things will improve is if the charities representing shielding/ high risk people have a hard...

I think the only thing we know for certain is we just dont know. It's such early days,we don't know if a vaccine will be effective. If it isnt and the only way of controlling the virus is social distancing that will be interesting.! They are only just discussing long covid, if heaven forbid...

Covid and Work, Covid Advice and General Chat

Yes it appears shocking. I think there is a thread just started on a very similar topic. As ever there are many layers. Rationing of any treatment on the NHS has been commonplace for years as people live longer and resources fewer.i worked with adults with PMLD for years and the service they...

I totally sympathise! I think if those who were not vulnerable were not taking such strict precautions it wouldnt be so stressful. The difference between your work situation and your husbands sums it up perfectly. If you had described that situation a year ago it would have been unthinkable...

Thankyou. That was tremendously helpful, even if results concerning personally(although not a surprise).

I'm so glad that you had a lovely send off with the potential for a return at some stage. I'm also glad that you are no longer in such a stressful and high risk situation . I would also like to thankyou for starting this thread which has supported so many people. There may be few answers out...

It is awful the position people are being put in. I'm the same age as you and must admit I often wish the retirement age was still 60.! That said I to feel still feel I have a lot to give, I'm just not quite sure in what form it will be! It's a difficult decision to make but I'm glad you have...

I agree,I would say that this thread is one of the things that has kept me grounded. More than anything this thread and a conversation with diabetes uk in mid summer made me feel as though I hadn't totally lost the plot! I think summer was a particularly problematical time. Everyone seemed to be...

I think that you have summed the situation up perfectly. We dont want not to work,I think we accept nothing is risk free. The current situation is something else entirely.

There is a definite shift in GPs. Mine in March was definitely supportive about the risk of being exposed to Covid although admitted their was no box to tick for diabetics. What is behind this turn around I would love to know. As you say it's like talking to a brick wall and you definitely are...

I have every sympathy with you. It's a totally non sensical situation. If you were sat on a less crowded bus for a fraction of the time it would be illegal not to.! Over the summer being in a similar position drove me to distraction. I have however realised that outside of the work situation I...

I think it was a trailer for Dispatches next week. I agree, Covid aside, hygiene in cafes / take aways can be problematical. All you can do is look at the food rating which should be displayed. As you say if somewhere visibly looks unsavoury theres not a lot of hope for what's happening behind...

Covid and Work, Covid Advice and General Chat

It does appear to be very contradictory. It appears to make sense that financial support is offered to those who are more at risk if they want it. Maybe it would be cheaper than the money involved supporting businesses/ unemployed. Items are appearing more on news etc of problems experienced by...

The government excuse this by assuming that workplaces etc are all covid safe. The reality doesn't concern them. Its terrible and brutal. Imagine how scary it would be if you had a job that couldn't be done from home combined with a non covid safe environment and an unconcerned employer.

I dont think you are making a big deal of things. It is indeed common courtesy. You have always spoken very highly of your school and your job,and being there has caused you considerable stress. A simple how are you or acknowledgement of the implications of a positive test would have taken only...
