It's not a competition but feeling fed up

This sounds like me 8 years ago, knowing what i know now i wish i changed my diet back then, your husband may well tolerate that diet currently, but it may not stay that way. Changing his diet now will give him the best chance to avoid potential complications down the line, trust me...

Test results: Help translating into English :D

Heya zastro, first of all well done you've started to get your levels down, indeed your results from the 13th are really really high. As for the insulin, I would hold off on accepting insulin initially, my doctor wanted me on it a few years ago, but I refused as i spend a lot of time working at...

    Living with non-diabetics

It isn't always easy, my other half has her own eating issues, which coupled with my previous lack of willpowet meant that i have eaten things i know i shouldn't. Fortunately i've regained my control and low carbing again, as a bonus she will eat some low carb meals now and seems to like them...

Can I eat a satsuma please!

Fruit wise your better off sticking to berries if your sole focus is maintaining a steady level, but were all different, the other option would be to have a few segments and test afterwards to see how if affects you, and whilst it's good to stick to your chosen diet the odd treat now and then...

    Hypo

I take the same amount of gliclazide as you. Everyone is different, but my body lets me know when i'm getting low, Usually at 3.8 i'll start to get a bit of a tingling sensation in my right hand, 3.5 ish my vision seems changes. I haven't had a full on hypo for a good few years, it's not a...

Any suggestions for starting a low carb diet?

If you are looking for ready made meals that are low carb you will struggle, even basic stuff like cauliflower cheese has more carbs in it than if you made it yourself. Better of buying the ingredients. What foods do you like?

Type 2 Blood sugars good or bad ?

Hi terry as other have said you would benefit from reducing your levels i try and keep between 4.5 and 6. As for merformin this is a known side effect, usually the symptoms will last 2 weeks, for me it lasted over 3 years before finally being offered an alternative that wasn't insulin, the...

    My Sugr App

I use it but only the free version, if you the improved search pdf reports or your meter is compatble it may be worth it. Personally i use it to keep me on the straight and narrow, the basic functions are fine for this.

Any suggestions for starting a low carb diet?

You maybe lucky and find an advocate for not following standard nhs guidelines, in my experience its rare though. The one thing i have had reinforced time and again by my health care professionals is they are resistant to change, often do not listen and do not volunteer relevant information. I...

    Night Time Snacking

Well tonight my dinner was some crustless spinach and feta quiche, two pork sausages (high meat content approx 1 carb per 2 sausages), about 100g of sauteed mushrooms and 85g of greek yoghurt as a sweet. I have 3 low carb high fat meals a day and i rarely snack between meals prior to low carb i...

    New to all this

Ok i'm sure daisy will be along with her guide for the newly diagnosed, take the time to have a good read as iy really does have a lot of useful information to help you. If your doctor follows the standard guidelines of cutting back on sugar, fats etc and concentrate on starchy carbs like...

    Night Time Snacking

Try adding some more fat to your evening meal, jusr steer clear or too much saturated fat, its the fat that stops you feeling hungry. Well in my case it is, low carb without the fat is like eating a salad it might be nice but wont keep you from feeling hungry. Personally i'm not a salad fan though.

Any suggestions for starting a low carb diet?

My biggest tips for successful low carbing Keep it varied, I eat eggs virtually every day but you have to mix things up else it'll get very boring very quickly. Plan each meal, try to be realistic, it took me a long time initially to prepare and cook things as i didn't really know what to cook...

    Diabetic retinopathy

I am currently going through this, looking at a computer screen isn't going to make a difference with retinopathy, you may well find that if the retinopathy progresses it will affect you ability to look at a screen though, I have non proliferative retinopathy in both eyes as well as macula...

Type 2 blood sugar levels - help!

I think your carb intake isn't going to help, 45g of porridge would spike me from a 5 to around 12 or higher, Low GI bread may well still have in excess of 10g of carb a slice, the chutney probably is fairly high but livable with if not in too large a quantity, the Kiev no doubt is coated in...

Type 2 blood sugar levels - help!

I had exactly the same issues with metformin both the normal and SR versions i was on them for over 3 years and the symptoms never went away and my blood sugars never really stabilised, i was then put on sitagliptin and gliclazide, which helped. You don't state what kind of diet you are on, but...
