    Novorapid overdose

That is an emergency! You must call 999 and be ready to eat rapid carbs such as sugar. 1 IU of insulin usually lowers 2.0 mmol/l and metabolises 15 grams of carbs hence 8 x 15 = 120 grams of carbs. You need to closely monitor your BG before taking the carbs, insulin should peak 90-150 minutes...

    New & confused Type 1

Hi Kim, don't worry, it's going to get better. I think you should speak with a doctor/specialist nurse soon, anyway I might just give you some advice (but do seek specialist help) just as "rule of thumb". So first one should consider your age, weight, gender and daily physical exercise (female...

A very interesting question about basal insulin (Lantus/Tresiba/Levemir).

A quick update on Tresiba and exercise. So apparently Tresiba would not have given me any big problems after moderate-intense exercise. I switched from 70 min fast walking/day to 2x 40 min fast cycling/day; this usually would have made me reducing Levemir about 20-30% in the first and second...

Spare meter, batteries in or out ?

Hi, I have an Aviva Nano that I keep as spare one. I was wondering whether I should keep the batteries in or out. Batteries in - pro: internal battery always charged; cons: batteries may leak, batteries may exhaust. Batteries out - pros: save on batteries, no leakage possible; con...

A very interesting question about basal insulin (Lantus/Tresiba/Levemir).

Hi Josephine. I am currently giving a go to Tresiba since I had your very same problems; My needs use to change quite a lot without any apparent reason. This actually might be due to changing in absorption rate, see this paper...

    Issues with Freestyle Libre

In Italy, San Marino and (maybe) Vatican city it's free for whomever is on a pump. In some regions of Italy it's free (paid by the Nat Health System) for every Type1. I have some info about France and Spain but I couldn't verify. Cheers

A very interesting question about basal insulin (Lantus/Tresiba/Levemir).

Yes but I just wanted to point out that the casting effect (build up) is not linear i.e. day 2 +25% ca, day 3 +10% (form 0). This info is quite important to us - btw I don't get why they somewhat put the minimal interval between injection at 8 hrs (I do know that in clinical trials they had not...

Please can someone explain insulin sensitivity?

When one sleeps GH peaks after ca. 1hr and returns to normality after 6-7 hrs, this most likely what causes the dawn phenomenon. Cheers

Please can someone explain insulin sensitivity?

Hi, I had suffered the same problem when I was assuming many carbs per day, as a male adult one should get 260 carb gr/day for a diabetic it's advised no more than 130 gr/day. I reduced to ca. 50-70 years ago and everything improved a lot.

Type 1 HELP! Tresiba sending levels all over the place.

Hi, I think you are on the 0.2 IU/Kg which might be right for you - many people need more than that (up to 0.4 IU per Kg) but I would NOT change your dosage that much without medical advice. I think that sometimes just a few IU might change a lot - as suggested by robert72 it is indeed a good...
