    Joint Pain

Hi: Your story sounds similar to mine, in that I was misdiagnosed as Type 2 in 2017 (at 69), and after having a serious DKA episode in 2019, it turns out that I actually have T1. What a game changer that was. I'm on Tresiba and Humalog (rapid). And, I do low carb eating. Because I had the...

No known reason why but I am not a "TYPE" anything any more.

I was first dx'd as T2D, after drinking the horrible glucose. Then two years later, after going on low carb and keeping BG in check, I suddenly went into a serious DKA episode. I spent 4 days in ER and had all the blood tests. Turns out I was actually T1D. It's been another 3 years and I've...

    Bariatric Surgery and T1D

Good morning all. I had bariatric surgery (stomach stapling) 41 years ago and most of the complications weren't known then, or else I forgot them. There are lots as in malabsorption of nutrients, etc. I was misdiagnosed as T2 back in 2017 at 69. Then after a very serious DKA episode in 2019...

Covid, steroids and raising numbers. Help and experience wanted.

Hi HSSS: Sorry you were so sick, however I'm glad to hear you're well enough to go home. When you say 6 - 12 range, are you meaning 6 mmol/L? I'm in Canada and sometimes the differences make me look to Google. I'm like you, when my BG goes up past 10, I get very frustrated. I'm also on low...

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

Hi Soph9219. Thanks. Things have improved since I wrote that post a couple of years ago. Yes, I have Dr. Bernstein's book and have read it and I'm also on a couple of forums. Hopefully things are going well with you, too.

explaining what it's really like to live with Type 1

I was diagnosed in 2017 (age 69). Shock!! I decided to go low carb and did manage it very well. My blood test results were excellent. Then in 2019 (age 71) I had a serious DKA episode and ended up in hospital for 4 days. Blood tests revealed T1. OMG! Can that be real? It even stumped the...

    Newly diagnosed Type 1

Your story sounds quite a bit like mine. Back in 2017 when I was 69, I was diagnosed with T2D. I went on Metformin, but it didn't agree with me. I researched and found Dr. Richard Bernstein's book re his own life with T1D and how he dealt with it. (I think he might be in his early 90s)...

    Just fedup!

I'm T1 myself, however, today I am fed up, too. I spoke with my Diabetic Educator today and she doesn't mind if my A1C is 7% or just above. I think that's too high. I'm almost 74 and have only been dealing with this for just over 4 years. Here is something I found on the diabetes uk site...

    Anxiety

Hi MikeyOOO: And, here I thought I was going crazy. Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this. I have had anxiety for a number of years, but it seems to be worse in the last four since I first got (mis)diagnosed as T2. Had a very serious DKA episode two years ago, now diagnosed T1...

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

I've been reading some articles on T1D and I find them quite interesting. This is one of them and has lots of articles. There are some things I disagree with, however, still lots of good info. https://diatribe.org/diabetes-type/type-1 I also ordered Adam Brown's book on Amazon.ca (Bright...

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

I went to a Counsellor that my Doctor recommended a few years back because she's part of the clinic. She never went over anything about what my childhood/teen years was like. But she did tell me I'm in a rut and need to go back to Al-Anon (which I attended because my ex was an alcoholic)...

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

Goodness, we do sound like we're having the same issues. If I think my Libre is too low/high, I check with a finger prick. Yesterday, my a.m. BG was 8.8, so I dosed 5 of Tresiba (long-acting) and 6 of Humalog. Two hours later it was 4.2 (while I was walking the dog). Then this a.m. my BG was...

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

We do seem to be. I'm going to check my family tree to see if we're related. lol I don't think I'm getting enough insulin, and I think I'm out of the honeymoon phase. My last A1C was 6.8 and my DE wasn't very happy. She thinks because of my age, etc, that it should be higher. Nope, because...

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

I totally understand how you are feeling. I was first (mis)diagnosed as Type 2 when I was 69 in 2017. I totally changed my lifestyle (Keto) and managed to keep my A1C in the normal range and blood results were great, with no meds and no insulin. Suddenly, without warning, I went into a...

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

I'm glad your sister has your support, DanutaMorks. I have to say with all the ups and downs that my latest A1C was 7.1. YIPPEE! As long as it keeps going down I'm happy. I have to get back to reading Dr. Bernstein's book because things slip through the holes in my memory. And, I have been...

    Sugars up and down.

Oh my goodness! I appear to be in the same boat as you. My BG is bouncing all over the place right now. Through the night when I got up to go potty at 3:45, I checked just for fun. My BG was 8.3 mmol/l. When I got up it was 4.7 mmol/l, at 7:15. I dosed 5u of Tresiba and 3u Humalog (as per...

Glycogen stores, hypos and low carb/keto diets

I follow the Diet Drs, too, and also Dr. Richard Bernstein and his book, The Diabetes Solution. He was T1 since 1946 when he was 12, so he has many years of doing research, mostly using himself as a guinea pig. (And, he's still going strong at 86 yrs old). I like to think that he has lots and...

    High readings

I'm on low carb and it works. If I even look at or think about wheat, white or whole grain, etc, my BG goes through the roof. Now, bacon and eggs. Not a problem, for me, at least. I cannot do carbs at all.

Today I find out I am type 1 diabetic /LADA

I have my favorite Cadbury Dairy Milk bars on hand just in case I have a hypo. I carry one bar, broken in pieces and Dex tabs when I'm out and about. One never knows.
