Today I find out I am type 1 diabetic /LADA

I know the feeling. Glad you finally got the results. I have a FreeStyle Libre monitor and sensors, prescribed by my doctor. I was 69 when diagnosed T2. At 71 I had a very serious DKA episode, 4 days in hospital, diagnosed T1. My doctor decided I'd be safer with the monitor/sensors due to my...

    I'm a new Type 1 diabetic

Good morning. You and I have similar stories. Pretty scary, isn't it? I was 69 when diagnosed with T2, went low carb for two years and everything was going great. Then I had a really bad DKA episode in May 2019 and ended up in the hospital for 4 days. Like you, it was a complete shock to me...

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

At this time, COVID, it's very difficult to see a counsellor and our mental health support group closed down in 2019, just when we really need it. I guess it's just one day at a time. Thanks and take care.

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

I have been reading Dr. Bernstein's book since he's had T1 since 1946 and has researched it for many years. I also read the Diet Drs and articles from different well-known hospitals in the States. My blood work results have always been good since this started so I know that part is good...

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

I feel just like you. My DE is more concerned with me being on low carb and wanting my numbers to be higher than I want. My target range is between 5-10. She doesn't mind if they're higher than that. I do. So, I feel like I don't have much support there. Thanks and take care.

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

I've never heard of decision fatigue, but that's exactly it. Some days I get so tired (frustrated) of making these decisions or even trying to figure them out. I am an all or nothing kind of girl and I need to know why for anything. I must have been a very annoying kid. Did anyone know that...

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

Low carb works for me. If I even think about higher carbs my BG goes through the roof. I just get very frustrated at times. I also have depression and anxiety, which I had long before this journey. Nobody in my circle of family or friends understands T1 and most don't know diabetes at all...

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

We could be. lololol Scared the heck out of me as I'm sure it did you. I definitely wasn't prepared for that. I am still confused. I was on very low doses of bolus at meals, however, this past few months it seems I need more, so I've been experimenting. I eat very low carb and when my BG...

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

Thank you for your reply. I will take a look online and see what I can find for my area. There's a long waiting list where I live for in-person. Thanks, again.

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

Thank you, Juicyj. That's what I need to do. Really accept it so I can give up the struggle. The exhaustion from 'fighting' it is very real. Yes, I need to take care of myself. Trust me, it's always been a long struggle to accept things my whole life. This one was so unexpected that it...

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

Thanks for your reply. I don't mind being on the low carb way of eating. I feel better physically when I'm on it and not eating sugar/wheat, etc. It's just when I am feeling low or anxious that I want to break out. This has been a strange year, plus other situations that I'm going through...

    Freestyle Libre very inaccurate??

I have been using the FreeStyle Libre since May 2019, when I was diagnosed T1 at age 71, after being (mis)diagnosed with T2 at 69. I really love it and I keep the monitor beside my bed because after first being diagnosed and trying to absorb all the information, I was having a lot of lows...

    COVID 19 and anxiety

You are not alone or paranoid. I am 72 and have only had T1 since 2019. Previously (mis)diagnosed in 2017 as T2. So, now I'm going through all the various emotions. I have a dog so I walk him when it's not too humid and I do go out and about while taking precautions. It is kind of scary...

5 things any newly diagnosed type 1 should know

OK, now I'm really upset. My laptop is not working properly and the post I had just written disappeared. I will start again. I haven't been on this forum for about two years. Today I decided to check in and saw this post on the 5 things I need to know. I thought I was managing the emotional...

T1 for 4 months, cracked wrist

My doctor has raised my Tresiba by 1u and today raised my Humalog by 1u at breakfast. I check in with them again early next wk. Nurse said it's because of the extra stress I have with cracked wrist.

T1 for 4 months, cracked wrist

Thanks everyone for your help. My diabetic educator is out of the country until Oct. My luck. I called her office and a diabetic nurse is going to help. I emailed her my blood sugar numbers for the past week and she will get back to me. Thanks again. And thanks, Ellie M for explaining the...

T1 for 4 months, cracked wrist

Thank you. It's not too painful, as long as I keep it elevated. I take 2u of Tresiba in the a.m. with 4u of Humalog at breakfast, 1u of H for lunch and 1u for supper. I don't carb count. I find bread is bad, however I've always been a carboholic. I was originally diagnosed T2 and...

T1 for 4 months, cracked wrist

I have been on insulin for 4 months. I was slowly going back to low carb to keep sugar down. I cracked my right wrist on Friday and have to use my left hand for everything. Very difficult, discouraging and stressful. Am typing with one finger of left hand. I can't make low carb meals or...

    LADA?

I had my gallbladder removed many years ago, too and didn't know there was a possible link until I read this post. I wonder why my GP "didn't think of anything else" (his words) when I had my DKA episode in May? If I hadn't had the DKA episode, with my glucose being through the roof for at...

    Another LADA joining the gang.

Thanks for explaining that, Marie 2. I was wondering why it does that. I need to do some more reading, Dr. Bernstein's book for one, and this forum to set my mind at ease. Take care and have a great day. Everyone.
