Newly Diagnosed - Doctor says Meds forever..

Evening all, I've been doing ok on LCHF diet (though probably moderate to high fat), basically over last two months I've avoided bread, pasta, potatoes, below ground veg, beer et al in my daily life. Morning readings average 5.7 (one peak at 6.8), pre lunch avg of 5, pre dinner 5.3. Also, never...

    It didnt sink in

Hi @Anfalas, Welcome to the forum. I was exactly the same as you when diagnosed in September. Didn't really take it all in. I'd second the advice to go back to the Dr with your partner or a friend, and get them to take a pad with questions and to take notes. My wife came with me for 2nd visit...

    Yipee !!!!!!!

@brianmt Very well done Brian, excellent result. And yes, lose your belly keep your feet is a great mantra. I've put a weight / belly measure weekly progress sheet on my fridge door stating the reasons I want to succeed. There's still 2 beers in that fridge from the week before I was diagnosed -...

Hi all, Checking back in... Morning readings are an average 5.8 (I've got a spreadsheet on the go!), generally mid 5s with rare mid 6's. Had a few weird evening ones as follows; 1) Dinner - Lamb meatballs, onions, mushrooms, toms, spinach, and as I wanted to do some experimenting I had 4...

Newly Diagnosed - Doctor says Meds forever..

First meal test. Standard breakfast for me is 2 tbsp of natural Greek yoghurt, mixed berries - strawberry, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries (about 80g in weight) - and pine nuts sprinkled on top. By the way, it's delicious, and if anyone is thinking of choosing this go for frozen berries...

Newly Diagnosed - Doctor says Meds forever..

Thanks again for all the input, especially the success stories. I hope to get there with you, maintaining LCHF, but a long way to go. I've taken to walking briskly, 10 minutes from car to train station in the morning, 10 minutes after lunch, 10 minutes back to car in the evening. Proper...

    How do you tell people

In these digital times I did use WhatsApp to tell my siblings and in-laws, just because it was easier and didn't have to repeat the story several times. I did sign off saying it's life changing not life threatening.... But, I did phone my Mum to tell her directly. Luckily I could start with a...

Newly Diagnosed - Doctor says Meds forever..

Thanks to all for your replies. A lot of welcome advice, and the message seems to be that it's different for each individual. The diet continues, and lost another kilo, so down to 75.1. Mrs H doesn't want me to to lose too much more so I need to get going on the exercise to trim my belly down...

Newly Diagnosed - Doctor says Meds forever..

Hi all, Male, aged 50, 1.79 metres tall, hovered around 80-82 kilos. Last blood test about 2 and half years ago presented normal levels. Had my “old man” NHS test this year, with result of raised levels, so sent for a full blood test. Result from this (and pre-diagnosis) = Fasting Glucose...
